GUILTY UK - Murder Investigation Launched as Woman, 34, and son, 4, killed in house fire

A 34-year-old woman and her four-year-old boy had been unaccounted for after the fire in Eastbourne. A 26 year old man (reportedly not the father of the boy) was also injured and is in an induced coma following the fire, which was reported at 1am on Tuesday 10th July. The cause of the fire is being treated as arson.

Believe the guy arrested at Gatwick may have been living in Portugal until now, I think five arrests have been made so far, imagine hopefully that we’ll have some news of some charges soon.

At Brighton Crown Court, the two defendants are accused of pouring petrol into the family home that led to the mother and son’s death.

John Tabakis is also on trial for intending to pervert the course of justice by removing a vehicle linked to the alleged crime.

Kate Lumsdon QC, prosecuting, said Toby Jarrett owed £400 to drug dealers over drug use.

It was owed to a man called John Sanders, who in turn owed money to Jake Barnard in Portugal.

Ms Lumsdon said the prosecution will show DNA evidence, CCTV evidence, mobile phone tracking, and car registration plate tracking.

Footage showed two men calmly walking away from the area as the fire took hold.

DNA matching Barnard was found on the cigarette lighter at the scene. DNA matching Milne was found on the petrol can.

Kate Lumsdon QC, prosecuting, told the court Jarrett owed his dealer John Sanders £400, who in turn owed £1,800 to “top man” Barnard who ran the drugs operation from Portugal.

Ms Lumsdon said: “It was a particular drug debt and the general message sent out to the wider drug community – don’t mess with this drug line.”

The prosecution said Barnard, 31, was found in possession of drugs and weapons where he lived in Portugal and was convicted.


Portuguese police found a “debtors list” which showed how Barnard owed him cash.

Meanwhile Milne, 42, is alleged to have acted as an “enforcer”, a claim he denies, for Barnard.

Jacob Barnard and Andrew Milne have been convicted at Lewes Crown Court of their murder and attempted murder. John Tabakis was found guilty of perverting the course of justice. Barnard and Milne are due to be sentenced on Friday. Judge Mrs Justice Whipple said they "will be facing lengthy terms" in prison. Tabakis was released on bail to be sentenced at a later date.
