Pretty good write up on the BBC website:

Who was the 'Thai bride' dumped in the hills?

Who was the 'Thai bride' dumped in the hills?
Interesting article, thanks! rbbm.

"Mr Harland and his team believe the woman had been living in a rural community in north Lancashire or south Cumbria and was murdered by her partner, then dumped outdoors. The stream where she was found is a mile from the main road and several from the nearest town of Settle."

"According to the Office of National Statistics, in 2004 there were 3,000 people in Cumbria and Lancashire who were born in a south-east Asian country."

"Investigators made use of a unique database that produces profiles of killers based on previous murder cases.

It shows that most bodies are carried no more than 50m (164ft) from a vehicle and that most drivers dumping a corpse travel no further than between 50 and 80 miles (80 to 130km).

The location of her body was off a rocky track only accessible by a 4x4, suggesting the killer may have lived in a rural location."

"We managed to track down a fell runner, who every morning would take a reading of the water level.

"When he gave us the charts it showed that there had been a massive spike in rainfall the 24 hours before she was found - enough to move a body."

Mr Harland maintains the killer was familiar with the area.

"The likelihood is that she's been dead at home, they've needed to get rid of her quickly and they've brought her up here, over the hump and put her out of sight."

New twist in 'Thai bride' murder mystery

Her identity has never been established by North Yorkshire Police but officers think she was a murdered "Thai bride".

A press conference in north-east Thailand heard a family had come forward about a missing relative.

I don't think her name was released by any media yet, but I am very sure police have British husband's name by now too...

The resemblance between Pennine Woman and this woman is uncanny, and then there's the timeline that seems to fit as well... Wow, we're not even done with the first month of 2019, and already there are all these identifications and promising leads on so many UIDs!

Caution regarding this one....
I have an obituary message in a local newspaper which clearly references the alleged victim here.
That obituary was for her husbands mothers death...it was from 2012........
Refers to her as "daughter in law" and makes no suggestion that she is dead.
So whoever placed that obituary notice either mistakenly thought that she was alive and kicking in 2012 or was deliberately misleading people!
Either way i would be checking out that particular newspapers obituary department if i were investigating this case!

This is really difficult as in general its good to take MSM's lead in what can be posted, and the BBC aren't naming the possible victim for legal reasons.

Are the daughter in law's initials 'LA'?

Wtiger, Wecome to Websleuths!

Some people's skill digging out information just amazes me.

I have to mention though that I have seen quite a few obituaries where missing person was mentioned as relative of deceased person. Sometimes they were mentioned as preceded in death and quite often no comment was made at all about their status, just a relation.

That Thai lady was not relative by blood, but still mentioned there in 2012, would in my mind suggest that they were not divorced at that point. If she was or was not ever reported missing by her husband is completely different matter.

DNA of 'Thai Bride's family'

'Thai bride's family' DNA tested

DNA samples have been taken from a Thai couple who believe their daughter may be he woman whose body was found on a hillside in England 14 years ago.

The body was discovered in a stream near Pen-y-ghent, in the Yorkshire Dales, in 2004, but police have so far been unable to identify the woman.

Detectives think she was a "Thai bride". On Thursday the couple came forward to say she is their relative.

Analysis of the samples taken by Thai officials is due to take several days.

The results of the tests will then be sent to the UK for comparison, according to Setthinari Venes, the president of Thai Women Network in the UK, who is working with the family.

I can respond to the question from legally bland in the following way

"You may say that....but i couldnt possibly comment".....

Nor can i comment on the rumour that her maiden name was Seekaniya :)

Her children would be 26 and 19 now, both born in Portsmouth. Electoral records show LA & DA in Hampshire 2002 and Warwickshire 2003. But I thought testing showed the deceased woman had lived around the Lancashire area (which would make more sense in terms of where she was found)

'Thai bride's' family DNA tested
"Now following a cold case review of the investigation and publicity in Thailand, a woman has come forward claiming the body might be that of her daughter, Lamduan, who moved to Britain in the 1990s."
"The family, from Udon Thani, in north-east Thailand, said they had not heard from her since 2004.

Mrs Seekanya said: "A part of me hopes that it's not my daughter - I want her to come back alive. But if it's really her, I can finally sleep at night."
