SEARCHES are underway for a “very upset” man who failed to return to a Bournemouth address on Tuesday morning.

Neil Hurren, aged 79, was last seen at an address in Runnymede Avenue at 10.20am on Tuesday, August 31. He was due back at 11.30am but failed to return.

He is described as white, five feet eight inches tall, of slim build and has silver hair worn in a ponytail and a silver beard.

He was possibly wearing a black cap, green jacket, green trousers and wellington boots.

Chief inspector Stuart Pitman, of Dorset Police, said: “Neil is vulnerable and we understand he has been very upset recently.

“We are very concerned for him and officers are carrying out searches in the area in a bid to locate him.

“I would urge anyone with information as to his whereabouts, or who sees a man matching the description given, to please contact us immediately.

“Finally, I would like to make a direct appeal to Neil if you see this – please contact us or your family and let us know where you are as we just want to make sure that you are safe.”

Police are renewing their appeal to find a missing man from Bournemouth, and are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Neil Hurren, aged 79, was reported missing having last been seen at an address in Runnymede Avenue at around 10.20am on Tuesday (August 31). He was due back at 11.30am, but failed to return.

Chief Inspector Claire Phillips, of Dorset Police, said: “Our search efforts to locate Neil are continuing and we are keeping his family updated throughout.

“Our searches have been focused in the Longham Lakes area as enquiries indicate Neil was last seen turning onto a footpath that leads from Ringwood Road toward the lakes at around 10.30am on Tuesday.

“I am now appealing specifically for motorists to check their dashcam footage for anything of relevance between 10am and midday on Tuesday (August 31) on Ringwood Road between the Bear Cross pub and Longham United Reform Church.

“I would continue to urge anyone with information as to his whereabouts, or who sees a man matching the description given, to please contact us immediately.”

At around 2.30pm on Monday 6 September 2021 officers received a report that a body had very sadly been found in the River Stour near to Longham.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, it is believed to be that of Neil. His family has been made aware of the sad news.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and HM Coroner has been informed.

Chief Inspector Claire Phillips, of Dorset Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with Neil’s family and friends at this very difficult time. They would now like time in private to deal with their loss.

“We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeals, as well as the partner agencies who assisted us with our searches.”

At around 2.30pm on Monday, September 6, officers received a report that a body had been found in the River Stour near to Longham.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, it is believed to be that of Neil. His family has been made aware.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and HM Coroner has been informed.
