Earlier today, Newcastle Uni was cleared of students and the bomb squad rushed in, after 'suspicious items' were found. No injuries, thank heavens.

I've been waiting for more details for hours and hours, but apart from an 18 year old being arrested and the Uni remaining closed, it doesn't seem to have made much of an impact, media wise.

I hope this isn't the start of some English alternative to student shooters.

Newcastle University is evacuated AGAIN in another bomb scare.....and it is still in relation to the arrest of two 18 year old Russians, and 'suspicious items'.

This is crazy if the building was reopened to students while a possible bomb was still in it. Unbelievable. police said yesterday there was no danger to students or the wider community....

"The ongoing activity is necessary to support the investigation, which centres around explosive offences linked to substances recovered from the university."

The registrar of the uni has said 'There is no need for alarm."

If I was a student there I wouldn't be alarmed at this stage. Because I'd be working from home.

It was a Russian student at the university arrested, and he has also been charged with 'carrying a bladed weapon' as well as explosive charges. It's beginning to sound like the boxcutters and bombs of 9/11. :(
