A £20,000 reward is being offered for help in solving the mystery of a missing woman whose case has led to a man being charged with murder.

Norma Girolami, 70, from Elm Court, Highgate, north London, has not been seen since August.

Serkan Kaygusuz, 41, of Sparsholt Road, Islington, is due in court later this year charged with murder and theft.

Detectives and her family are still seeking information as to what has happened to her.

Ms Girolami's family say she last spoke to them in July but stopped answering text messages in August.

Officers have conducted searches of several addresses but so far have been unable to locate Ms Girolami.

Her cousin Simone Day told the BBC the lack of uncertainty had left them feeling "utterly devastated".

"We all get so emotional when we talk about her and we can't quite believe she's gone. We have accepted there is a void in our lives now.

"Norma was such a fun and loving woman, she always wanted to make sure you had fun," Ms Day continued.

"She was a Londoner born and bred, loved going out and going on vacation. She was devoted to her family."

Ms Day added some of the reward money is coming from the family and the rest is coming from the police.

Norma Girolami: £20k reward to solve missing woman mystery

Detectives investigating the murder of a wealthy woman, who took out a £35,000 loan after going missing in north London, have made new appeals to solve the mystery.

Norma Girolami, 70, vanished from her Highgate flat in mid-August 2021 without warning to friends and family and leaving food in her fridge.

The family of Ms Girolami, who lived alone and has no children, are “distraught”.

A murder investigation was launched in October 2021. Police searching for her body put up a £20,000 reward.

The churchgoer liked to visit Leigh-on-Sea and made a trip there on August 19, taking the train from Barking before returning to London later that day.

Calls and texts to friends and relatives stopped that same evening.

As part of their investigation, officers on Thursday released images of an 2018-reg silver Kia Niro hybrid car they believe may have been driven in a suspicious manner around Highgate and Finchley.

Her cousin Pia Graham said: “We miss you so much Norma.

“Christmas was such a hard time for us because we know it was a time you loved - seeing us and being around family… going to St Joseph’s for Christmas Mass… helping those less fortunate than you.

“I would ask everyone to look closely at these pictures and think about whether you recognise Norma.

“Did you see her last summer? If you think you might have information – even if you aren’t completely sure it was her or don’t remember exact dates – please contact the police. No piece of information is too small.”

Human remains have been found in the search for a missing woman who was last seen 15 months ago.

Detectives have found remains belonging to 70-year-old Norma Girolami at a churchyard in north London.

It comes just weeks after police offered a £20,000 reward for information that would lead to the discovery.

Girolami went missing in August last year. The Metropolitan Police opened a murder investigation two months later.

A man has been charged with her murder.

Detectives investigating her disappearance found remains during a search at a churchyard in Friern Barnet Lane, the Met said on Friday.

They have been formally identified as belonging to Girolami and her family have been notified.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn said: “Despite accepting that Norma was no longer alive, I know that her family are deeply affected by the news that her remains have been found. Our thoughts are very much with them.

“My team has spent more than a year searching for Norma and there is a sense of relief that we have found her remains which will undergo forensic examination in due course.”

We are aware of the possibility that her body may have been buried in a community space or a graveyard.

How did they get that info 'that her body may have been buried in a community space or a graveyard'? A tip off, or from the suspect? That was in September the police said that.

Definitely buried? Or overgrown area of cemetery? Not enough staff due to covid period? Recently been tidied up? JMO
