..officers have now been granted a warrant of further detention to question Rebecca Leighton, they now have until 0905 BST on Friday.

There seems to be some confusion in the press about the extension time, I have now read that it ends at 2105pm on friday

What scares me the most about this case is the apparent complete randomness and lack of motivation of the deaths. If you inject too much insulin into someone you're wanting that particular person to die and while it's not okay to murder anybody because they're your ex or because they own a lot of money that you're going to inherit or because they're just so annoying at least it's some way to make sense of it... If you inject insulin into random bags of saline you don't know who is going to end up using that bag and it's random who dies, random who doesn't. You don't particularly want a particular person dead, you just want DEATH.

Maybe she or whoever did it had a motive that I'm not seeing but so far it just appears random.

Officers have until 21:05 BST to hold 27-year-old Rebecca Leighton, of Heaviley in Stockport.

They could then re-apply to a magistrate for further time to question her.

So that's till 3:05 CDT in the U.S.

The naivety here ,does anyone know the real reason Shipman killed, thank God some do and oh he was such a lovely man to some. She is a chameleon apparently ,it is the other website next to her images on Google that I find strange anyone seen this other site. I suspect other NHS staff know what is going on and have had their suspicions for some time and this will be crucial in nailing the killers. This is like VT all over again those who thought he was not guilty or involved .

I have tried to be respectful of RL on this thread until she was charged- innocent until proven guilty and all that.
Why did Dr HS kill? I know he was gaining financially from his killing and was an addict. Do you know anything more?

We have authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Rebecca Leighton, a nurse at Stepping Hill Hospital, with three charges of criminal damage intending to endanger life, three charges of criminal damage being reckless as to whether life would be endangered and one charge of theft.

Guardian today, this is far from cut and dried. I would welcome some input here, are there others doing the same thing at Stepping Hill? It is all so odd...

"Rebecca Jane Leighton, of Buxton Road, Heaviley, is charged with six counts under section one of the criminal damage act, causing damage with intent to endanger life or being reckless to whether life is being endangered.

"She is also charged with one count of theft of medicine from Stepping Hill Hospital."

It is understood Leighton had recently been rejected for a new job, thought to have been a promotion within the hospital. She is believed to have vehemently protested her innocence to detectives.

Officers said it was likely the death toll would rise as the coroner investigates any further unexplained deaths at the hospital.
