The state as we call it is run by a few select elite who's ideology is definitely not the norm. We also know they place their minions in all areas of society They have enough on these two it seems to constitute a crime, a lesser one maybe ,but nevertheless acts of crime. Only time will tell if they become more serious.

Mr Afzal said there was "sufficient evidence" for a conviction against Miss Leighton over one charge of theft of medication.
However he said the CPS decided that "it is not in the public interest to proceed" considering the time she had already spent in custody.

So is this up to the Nursing and Midwifery Council now. Did HS get suspended for stealing drugs for awhile or was he allowed to go on practising. If so the present short suspension they have on her may still stand.

I can say in all honesty i wouldnt want this woman treating me or a member of my family..

One reason why i wondered why this could possibly be a difficult case - say she did inject the bags of saline with something...it most probably wouldnt actually be her giving the saline to the patient if that makes sense? so although her actions potentially caused the problem...she wasnt giving the patient the lethal saline? if that makes sense at all?

From Anorak, a sampling of earlier coverage:

How The Tabloids Monstered Rebecca Leighton Over The Stepping Hill Hospital Deaths
---
The Mail kept hammering at her. It had seen her Facebook page:

In one picture, Leighton is seen downing a bottle of wine.

Can you see someone down an entire bottle of wine in a single photo? No. You can see them looking as if they are drinking wine. The rest is guess work designed to create an impression of the innocent nurse.

Were there any witnesses to her behaviour?

At a convenience store near her Stockport home, proprietor Hamid Bayatpoor, 47, said: “She comes in all the time in her nurse’s uniform and buys wine and cigarettes – Echo Falls rosé and packets of 20 or 40 Mayfair.”

Hmmm….

“At the weekend she comes in all dressed up, wearing a party dress.”

Oh, aye…
---
The Sun embarked on a flight of fancy as it enters the “Town of fear”:

THE mood was as dark as the clouds swirling around the town’s famous hat museum yesterday. There was little talk of anything else in Stockport but that a serial killer may be in the locals’ midst.

An expert served up a dish of cold obvious:

Sick patients are such easy prey. A sick hospital patient, who expects to feel ill and may not spot signs such as feeling faint or confused, is an easy victim.

And then it got more sinister. Innocent Leighton was linked to a convicted serial killer:

It emerged yesterday that the saline serial killer may have murdered more victims than Angel of Death Beverley Allitt. Nurse Allitt, now 42, was given life 18 years ago for murdering four children and injuring

Now police hunt TWO suspects for hospital poisonings (Daily Mail)

Detectives investigating the poisoning of at least seven patients at a Stockport hospital now believe that two killers may have been working at the premises.
---
Now, according to police sources, the investigation is focusing on evidence suggesting that two individuals are responsible for poisoning saline solutions.

Officers found evidence of two different sets of fingerprints on tampered stock. The police investigation was hampered over the past two months by the difficulty of establishing who had access to medical supplies at the hospital and because of lack of security over where they were stored.

Police believe they are close to apprehending one of the two people they believe sabotaged the saline solutions. The suspect is male, works within the hospital and has access to the medical supplies.

A police source told The Mail on Sunday last night: ‘The entire investigation has been fraught with difficulties but it is believed that there may be at least two individuals responsible. One of them, a man, has already been spoken to by detectives and his fingerprints are on one of the pivotal damaged sets of saline solution.

‘There is also a different set of fingerprints on the other damaged solution, pointing to the fact that there are two people responsible.

‘It is unclear at the moment whether the man acted alone but police are pursuing the idea that he may be a copycat “killer”.

‘It is too early to say at this point but the net is definitely closing in.’

FOR THE KIDS

Agree, everything taken into account and even though she has been released is she really nurse material. All she ever wanted to be was a nurse yet if the accusation of stealing drugs is true then why do it. Agree would not like to be treated by her.

You could be right that does make sense and if that were the case it must be near impossible to prove she is guilty and frustrating for those trying to get evidence when the defence can knock it down so easy. That is what they had her for contaminating, but now cannot prove that.

They were talking about her finger prints on the contaminated bags. Presumably they have also got other fingerprints which they must trace and eliminate. I don't know but would all finger prints show up. Police did say they have to eliminate to build the case which is going to take time. Now she seems to be saying she is going to sue the Police but if they are still unsure of her innocence and if they find more evidence they will charge her again, then it would be a bad move for her if new evidence were to turn up to incriminate. So I wonder if she will proceed.

They were talking about her finger prints on the contaminated bags. .
snip

Do you have a link for this? Who is "they"?

OKAY, here it is:

A bail hearing last month heard that the evidence against Miss Leighton was based on her fingerprints being found on a bag of saline which had been damaged by a needle.
---
However, Mr Justice Henriques found that "many people" had access to the saline bags and the fluid. He concluded that there were also other fingerprints on the bags and that as a staff nurse Miss Leighton had every reason to be touching both items.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...t-of-nurse-accused-of-poisoning-patients.html

Also much at link about Rebecca Leighton possibly suing.

But prosecutors have also pointed the finger of blame at Greater Manchester Police for the botched investigation so far into seven deaths and "more than 40" potential victims in total, all of whom suffered poisoning between June 1 and July 16.

In a statement the CPS said prosecutors only agreed to the 27- year-old being charged with criminal damage with intent to endanger life after being reassured by police that enough evidence to build a substantial case against her would be forthcoming.
---
Mr Richmond, of Manchester-based legal firm Middleweeks, accused both the CPS and Greater Manchester Police of caving into pressure for a swift end to the hunt for the killer.

He said: "They needed a name in the frame to placate fears. Based on the evidence they had she should have been bailed and released. Instead she was charged very quickly.

"The CPS should have been much more robust when it came to agreeing to charge Rebecca. There has to be a prospect of conviction if you are to charge someone and it is clear there was no prospect of that in Rebecca's case."

I wouldnt leave it at two, likely to be more but we wont know, abuse is carefully planned by like minded people. Never read the bit about her being friends with a serial killer ,hope he is not the one they have.

Yes, I think you're right on the more than two as many staff had access, as Mr Justice Henriques noted, and may have touched the saline innocently. I can't think of another hospital case where "like minded people" have, in tandem, carried out a death spree, it's usually just one lone perpetrator. (I could be wrong, and there is a first time for everything.)

She was found with hospital antibiotics, ibuprofen and bandages when arrested, he said: "To prosecute for that, they would have to prosecute almost every doctor and nurse in the country. It was not hard drugs. We're talking about antibiotics, because she worked five nights on the trot and was getting a throat infection. She was told to take them home and take them. That's why it's been dropped because it is simply not in the public interest."HOW MANY DID SHE HAVE FOR POLICE TO CONSIDER THIS A CRIME.

Yes, that's from the Independent link below. There also:
Mr Richmond, of Middleweeks Solicitors, said evidence in the case was "unclear" from the outset, adding that up to 40 people could have been charged over fingerprints found on several items including saline bags.
Evidently, all they had was one set of fingerprints, and a few supplies. The fingerpointing has already started between GMP and CPS. Hugely irrational to have arrested her at that point; it was scapegoating in order to quell fear. They were willing to sacrifice her career.

Sometimes I just can't help myself, and this is one of the times.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...actor-Sam-Edge-survived-saline-poisoning.html

I don't know how to post pictures. See at link.

Of course, I'm going to notice his resemblance to Johnny Depp. Unfortunately, although listed as an actor, Sam Edge has only two shows to his credit in IMDB.

At any rate, I'm thankful for all who escaped an untimely death during the period that "someone" was attempting to murder innocent people in the worst possible location.

Any theft from NHS property is a crime. They have a very diligent Counter Fraud department. I have known a RN dismissed for gross misconduct after being found in possession of 7 tablets, yes, 7.

However in reality it goes on all the time, when you are working back to back long shifts, your health is undermined, sickness is treated as a disciplinary matter these days- another nurse says take some ibuprofen and some antibiotics, a lot of nurses would do this.

I used to work in the NHS and I know this for a fact, I also know that doctors can steal drugs and no action will be taken at all in most cases

Based on what I have read and heard so far, I would have no problem with this nurse treating me or my family but many will hold this situation against her for the rest of her life. I feel very sorry for her.

What is this serial killer business? Is there a link to this information or is it rumour?

There is no consistency in how the NMC deal with cases, I would hope that RL's lawyers would challenge the suspension, this would be done in a hearing and I hope that she would be allowed to practise again.
However they might take the drug theft into consideration, if this is the case she could be suspended for years before they reach a conclusion

Innocent Leighton was linked to a convicted serial killer:
AS LIKE, PRESUMABLY NOT DIRECTLY LINKED.

AS THE POLICE ARE NOT CERTAIN THEN YES SURE I WOULD NOT BE HAPPY, THEY HAVE NOT SAID SHE IS COMPLETELY INNOCENT BUT HAVE LEFT IT VERY OPEN .IF ALL OUR NURSES LOOK AND BEHAIVE LIKE THAT AND FEEL THE NEED TO SHOW THOSE PHOTOS TO THE WORLD THEN I WOULD THINK NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD EVER WANT TO GO INTO HOSPITAL TO BE TREATED. JUST MY OPINION.

Do you have a LINK for that information? As for judging an individual's level of professional competence by his or her looks - what? And what behavior are you speaking of? "Omigod, she smokes, she drinks wine, she has fun at the weekend"? (And I say this as one proudly born many years ago in a Sisters of Mercy hospital with all the nuns in black and white.)

Maybe people shouldn't be snooping on her facebook page.
Nurses work hard and sometimes play hard too, they do a stressful job, getting more stressful by the day. We get abused, hit, spat at by patients and all we can do is turn the other cheek.
We nurse because we love it and what someone's FB photos have to do with this case, I do not know

A must read and a timely reminder of the utter b#+**)%ks printed in our tabloids

From the above article
"And then it got more sinister. Innocent Leighton was linked to a convicted serial killer:

It emerged yesterday that the saline serial killer may have murdered more victims than Angel of Death Beverley Allitt. Nurse Allitt, now 42, was given life 18 years ago for murdering four children and injuring nine others in a spree that shocked the nation."

So this is where the serial killer business started, whoops another rumour was nearly started, on Websleuths of all places
