Hanging is actually quite popular method of suicide. In both men and women.
I think all of the suicide or alleged suicide cases of females we have been discussing recently on websleuths are by hanging.

If Wikipedia has their figures correct it seems common enough:

PrevalenceAccording to Anton J. L. van Hooff, hanging was the most common suicide method in primitive and pre-industrial societies.[5] A 2008 review of 56 countries based on World Health Organization mortality data found that hanging was the most common method in most of the countries,[6] accounting for 53 percent of the male suicides and 39 percent of the female suicides.[7] In England and Wales, hanging is the most commonly used method, and is particularly prevalent in the group of males aged 15–44, comprising almost half of the suicides in the group. It is the second most common method among women, behind poisoning. In 1981 hanging accounted for 23.5 percent of male suicides, and by 2001 the figure had risen to 44.2 percent.[2] The proportion of hangings as suicides in 2005 among women aged 15–34 was 47.2 percent, having risen from 5.7 percent in 1968.[8] In the United States it is the second most common method, behind firearms,[9] and is by far the most common method for those in psychiatric wards and hospitals.[10] Hanging accounts for a greater percentage of suicides among younger Americans than among older ones.[11] Differences exist among ethnic groups; research suggests that hanging is the most common method among Chinese and Japanese Americans.[12] Hanging is also a frequently used method for those in custody, in several countries.[1]

She was 46, older than the women in the chart but it illustrates that hanging is not unheard of in women.

Saldanha’s brother in Mangalore said her family wants to bury her body in India.

“Ben (Jacintha's husband) has not been allowed to see the body,” Naveen Saldanha told The Times of India. “We are also under tremendous stress of what is happening there and are worried.”

He added that their mother has not been told of his sister's death, and they are “planning to slowly break the news to her."

"We have told her Jacintha is very serious, and mother has been praying and has also asked us to pray for her good health," Naveen Saldanha said.

He also disputed previous reports that his sister may have felt ashamed for unwittingly taking part in the prank.

BBM. Since it is so easy, can you point me to the link? Thanks.

It's in post 203, the post immediately above the post of mine that you quoted.

If you prefer official government sources to wikipedia, all you need to do is put Suicide Act 1961 into Google. I've linked it for you. Happy to help.

Morrissey from The Smiths is now speaking out about this? That just made me lol.
Steven Morrissey has been an outspoken critic of the royal family - and of the notion of "royalty" - for many years.

(e.g. they receive the backhand in his fine single "Irish Blood, English Heart" [YouTube] from a few years back)

There's more to this than meets the eye.

Last time I checked suicide was actually illegal, so why isn't anyone bashing the nurse for breaking the law and leaving her two kids without a mother? Oh and doing it in the home, so the kids could come home and find her body?

Because the nurse is not a live to criticize, she is considered the victim. And she did not do it in the house that her kids could find her. She lived in a separate residence away from her children.

Kate Middleton, Royal Family Blamed for Nurse's Tragic Death by Morrissey, Says Duchess "Feels No Shame"

Gina Serpe, eonline

Clearly, Morrissey is not familiar with the adage "if you don't have something nice to say..."

Because the noted sunshine-bringer of the British music scene today unleashed quite a horrific tirade against Kate Middleton, Prince William and the whole of the royal family, essentially blaming the monarchy for the tragic apparent suicide of hospital nurse Jacintha Saldanha.

And, it seems, more or less all the ills of the world...

I am not sure how her brother would know how she felt about being hoaxed considering it was reported she didn't tell her family members in India about this hoax at all.

Meanwhile, Naveen was very distraught by the reports of a London-based daily that carried a statement attributed to him stating that "sister (Jacintha) died of shame..." Naveen added. "We have not spoken to any media - print or visual. We don't want to issue statements as anything said now could be misinterpreted and create further trauma to us. We are under duress and this statement attributed to me is totally false and baseless. We are somehow coping with the loss. Please leave us alone.''

I hope the djs are prosecuted. In the UK it is illegal to try to obtain private information such as medical information by deception. These two pretended to not only be a relative, but also the head of state, in order to obtain confidential medical information in order to give this information to the public. It woudl be illegal in the UK, hopefully this is also a crime in australia.

I also do not udnerstand why someone has said the nurse committed a crime. She did not. She herself gave away no confidential information and suicide is legal in the UK.

Not a crime but didn't she violate hospital protocol by transferring the call to the ward? Or is it that anytime someone calls and pretends they are a family member (or even a friend) they get transferred to the ward and it's up to the nurse at the nurse's station to determine if it's legitimate or not?

Sounds that she was determined to kill herself, one way or the other.
With three notes, I'd think she explained what her reasoning was.

Yes, it would seem so. I hope at least her family understands, when and if they are ever allowed to have or read the notes.

Such a tragic story. :(

I don't see how they could keep the notes from family.

I would hope not, and would not think so, it just seems the MSM quotes make the family sound as if they do not have any understanding. I'm sure they do, but we only have MSM quote, sigh.

If the notes indicate that the hospital brought pressure on her at the behest of the royal family, the notes will never be released.

Inquest: Nurse in British royal hoax found hanging

By JILL LAWLESS, AP

LONDON — An inquest into the apparent suicide of a nurse duped by a hoax call from Australian DJs about the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge heard Thursday that she was found hanging in her room, had wrist injuries and left three notes.

Coroner's officer Lynda Martindill said nurse Jacintha Saldanha was discovered hanging by a scarf from a wardrobe in her nurses' quarters on Friday by a colleague and a member of security staff at London's King Edward VII Hospital.

Martindill said an attempt to revive Saldanha failed. The case is being treated as an apparent suicide.

Police detective chief inspector James Harman said Saldanha, 46, also had injuries to her wrists...
