We are continuing our search for missing Oliwier today, with a dedicated team of officers searching the River Trent and the surrounding areas of Gainsborough.

We are now calling for the help of our community as we try to trace his movements prior to when he was last seen Monday evening.

Please can you check dashcam footage if you were driving along Bridge Street and Trent Bridge between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Monday 22, to see if it may have captured Oliwier.

We know that he was near the riverbank at The Flood Road bridge in Gainsborough at around those times, and we believe that there were a number of motorists on the road at the time.

We would ask that people do not speculate about what’s happened to Oliwier.

Any information from his friends which we may not yet have been told, could also help us to find him. We would call on parents of children who know Oliwier to speak with their children and see if there may be information which could help us.

If you have any information that may help us, please get in touch by calling 101, quoting incident number 513 of 22 May.

Update on our search for Oliwier:

Our specially-trained officers are continuing to search for missing Oliwier, including underwater search teams and officers searching the banks and location around the River Trent. We are also making use of the police drone, while carrying out other enquiries.

We have dedicated a large number of officers to finding him, and the local area searches are just some of the enquiries we are carrying out while we try to determine where he is. There will continue to be a policing presence in Gainsborough overnight.

We remain hopeful that he will be found safe and well, and we would continue to encourage anyone who may see Oliwier, or have information about his whereabouts, to contact us.

There has been huge support from the local community in sharing our appeals, which we want to thank them for. This has included search parties organised by local residents, who have been walking along the footpaths on the river banks.

However, the banks of the Trent are very dangerous, so we would caution people to stick to footpaths, and not put themselves at risk by getting too close to the river as this could detract from our efforts if we have to break off our search to ensure the safety of others. We would ask you do not search that area when it gets dark.

We know our community want to help, and the best way for them to do that is by sharing our appeal as widely as possible, checking dashcam footage from the Bridge Street and Trent Bridge area between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Monday 22, to see if it may have captured Oliwier.

We are also asking for anyone who may have had contact with him on social media in the past few days, even if that may be just him liking a post, to get in touch.

Call 101, quoting Incident 513 of 22 May.

Update at 3.15 Thursday 25 May - Missing Oliwier

We are now in the sad position to say that we believe he has entered the water.

Superintendent Phil Baker said: “The last three days has seen a significant round-the-clock effort to find Oliwier. This has included searching abandoned buildings along the River Trent where he was last seen, searching footpaths, undergrowth, and local farmer’s fields, as well as speaking with friends, family, and his school, and reviewing CCTV footage and social media accounts.

“Having carefully pieced together Oliwier’s movements since he was last seen on Monday evening, we are now in the sad position to say that we believe he has entered the water. We have come to this belief after viewing CCTV footage which shows someone entering the water near the riverbank at The Flood Road bridge in Gainsborough at around 9.20pm on Monday. This is around the same location and time we had a last confirmed sighting of Oliwier. Because of this, we are now treating this as a recovery operation, and focusing our efforts in the water and along the water’s edge.

“Today, we have deployed a boat fitted with sonar from the Environment Agency to help our search in the water along with teams from Humberside and Nottinghamshire Police, and divers will also be on scene. We are also using our drones which are more manoeuvrable than a helicopter and allows us to get closer to the river, to assist our search efforts. We would like to recognise the enormous support shown by the local community, which has included sharing information and local searches. We’d ask that they now hand over the searching to our trained officers for their safety, as the banks of the river can be treacherous and the water is very fast-moving.

“We continue to be open to new lines of enquiry, so we ask that the public continue to send any information you have to us while we continue the search for Oliwier. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”

Update on our search for missing Oliwier: You will be aware that we have had a significant search effort around the River Trent in Gainsborough as we try to locate Oliwier.

Today, that has included a specially-trained underwater search team and officers searching the banks.

We are saddened to report that this afternoon, we have recovered a body around 300m from the Flood Road bridge.

Officers remain on scene as we start the difficult process of removing the body, and we ask that people do not share images or posts from the lcarried out, so we are unable to confirm that it is Oliwier at this time. Procedures to identify the body are on-going. Oliwier’s family have been informed of developments and our thoughts are with them at this most difficult of times. We ask that their privacy is respected.

We are currently treating the death as unexplained, and we are liaising with the Coroner.

We are saddened to confirm that following formal identification, the body found in the River Trent yesterday afternoon (26 May) was 15-year-old Oliwier Kaczmarowska.

The family of 15-year-old Oliwier Kaczmarowski, whose body was sadly found in the River Trent in Gainsborough on Friday 26 May, have paid tribute to their “man of the house” and “protective, calm brother and son”.

They said: “It’s hard to find the words to describe how we’re feeling. We still can’t believe that he’s gone. I don’t think it’s properly hit us yet that he is gone.

“As his mum, I still can’t go inside his room. Sometimes we don’t know what to say when people ask us about him. We have so many precious memories of Oliwier and I’m sure his friends have their own memories of him. We will treasure those memories we had with him.

“He took it upon himself to be the man of the house when his father passed away. It was such a big responsibility, but he helped his siblings by being there for them when they were going through a hard time.

“Even though he bickered with his siblings a lot, he was incredibly protective. He always thought he was good at fighting and play fighting, but we all knew he wasn’t!

“Oliwier had a small group of close friends and he enjoyed going out with them. He was a great friend, and we were told recently that he stepped in to help someone who had been bullied and took him under his wing so he wouldn’t be alone.

“He was very calm, he helped around the house by going food shopping, taking parcels to the post office and he was very funny. Some would say he had a dark sense of humour and it’s one of the things we remember fondly about him.

“He liked wearing smart clothes, had a cologne collection and liked looking after himself. He wasn’t very athletic, but he had recently been going to the gym. Green was also his favourite colour.

“He used to collect game consoles and was thinking of starting a business with games and consoles. He was also really interested in history and wanted to study this in college.

“We are incredibly grateful to the community for coming together. Everyone who came to support us, help us with the search and the vigil. There were people who didn’t even know Oliwier who came to help, and people have said nothing but great things about him. For that, my family are thankful.

“Some days, it can be painful to think about Oliwier not being here and that we’ve lost our man of the house. We love you and we will miss you Oliwier.”

Oliwier was initially reported as a missing person on Monday 22 May.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for HM Coroner.
