The South-Eastern Trust has apologised after one of its care assistants admitted abusing a 70-year-old woman with Alzheimer's Disease.

The family of Ivy McCluskey, who were worried about her dwindling weight, secretly recorded Patricia Young eating food meant for her patient.

Mrs McCluskey died 12 weeks after Young stopped caring for her.

The 54-year-old of Mandeville Avenue in Lisburn, who has admitted two counts of abuse, will be sentenced next month.

Ms McCluskey said they were staggered by what they found when they viewed the surveillance camera footage. Young spooned up celery soup and then lifted a fork to devour mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! Seriously!?!? To watch that video is beyond words!!! And when she picks up the rest of those potatoes & puts them into a tissue & throws them away!? The entire time the patient is in front of her while she watches TV!! :-(

Inhumane is way too polite of a term for this crime.

I have no words to describe how I feel after reading this story.
Just sick to my stomach over crimes such as this one. :furious:
