UK: 'Possible human remains' found in Loch Lomond

Detectives have launched an investigation after the discovery of "possible human remains" in Loch Lomond.

Officers said the alarm was raised close to Rubha Dubh, at Firkin Point, at about 12:40 on Saturday.

The remains were removed from the scene for analysis.

Officers, a police van and a forensics vehicle remained at the scene on Monday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Extensive inquiries are ongoing."

Human remains found on the shore of Loch Lomond at the weekend are those of a missing man.

Detectives said the death of Graham Wright, 38, who was reported missing from Glasgow last month, is being treated as unexplained.

His last confirmed sighting was on Cumberland Street in the Gorbals at around midday on 25 August.

Graham is believed to have been in the same area on Friday, 5 September at 9.30am.

He often visits the city centre and also has links to the Gorbals, Govanhill and Pollokshaws areas.

Graham Wright was last seen in the Gorbals on August 20. Police appealed for help from the public as they shared a fresh image, stating that he usually wears a tracksuit and a Rangers shirt.

Police Scotland has appealed for information and has opened a major incident portal where officers can be contacted anonymously.

Mr Wright was reported missing on Monday 25 August. He was last seen at about 12:00 on Wednesday 20 August on Cumberland Street in the Gorbals area of Glasgow.

Police said he may also have been in the same area on Friday 5 September at about 09:30.

MURDER cops probing the discovery of human remains in Loch Lomond are searching a flat linked to another missing person inquiry, we can reveal.

The one-bed property in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, has been the focus of intense police activity since Graham Wright, 38, was found near Firkin Point at the beauty spot on Saturday, September 13.

The Scottish Sun has learned officers previously quizzed neighbours of the same flat about missing busker Lewis Cuthbert, 25, who was last seen on August 4.

A source said: “It’s highly unusual for one property to be linked to two high-profile cases.”

This week stunned neighbours told of their shock at being quizzed over two separate missing person cases.

Detectives first visited the property last month to ask locals if they’d seen missing busker Lewis, of Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

Tricky but not impossible to get there by bus from Glasgow, would have to go to either Tarbet or Inverbeg then walk about an hour south or north along the A82, I think. The Citylink buses up that way aren’t cheap. At first I thought suicide but with the amount of time police are apparently spending at the scene it seems more likely that he was transported there?

Yep, it feels like he was transported there to the layby. The body, as I understand, was found off the shingle beach just down from it.

I haven't been able to find out if the CID activity in Luss was related or not, but they were clearly taking evidence out of a property there.

Police investigating human remains found near Loch Lomond are now searching for the dead man's missing neighbour, BBC Scotland News understands.

The male neighbour of Graham Wright has since "vanished" from his home in the Gorbals in Glasgow, according to police sources.

A hire van used by the neighbour has also been found burnt-out while police have been searching properties in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

Detective Superintendent Peter Sharp said: "Our thoughts are with Graham's family and friends at this extremely difficult time and they are being supported by specialist officers.

"It is vital we get answers for them and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish how his remains came to be on the shore of Loch Lomond."

"A dedicated team of officers are carrying out investigations, including door-to-door enquiries and examining all available CCTV footage in the area.

"The area can be busy with visitors and dog walkers, and I would urge anyone who was staying in the area to come forward, as any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it is, could prove vital."

"Please think back - do you remember seeing anything out of the ordinary whilst in the area?

"I am also keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area, specifically on the A82, between Monday, 1 September, 2025 and Saturday, 13 September, 2025, as you may have dashcam footage that could help our investigation."

"We are also appealing for information from anyone who was onboard a boat, or any other vessel, or anyone who may have been using the water near to Firkin Point for any purpose around this time. If you have information or CCTV, or could help with our investigation please come forward."

"A significant amount of resources have been dedicated to this investigation and searches of the area will continue.
"Please be reassured we are doing everything we can to get answers and there will be a large police presence as these enquiries continue."
