The Duke of Edinburgh paid the market rate for his royal residence while his brother Prince Andrew was contracted to pay only “one peppercorn, if demanded” for Royal Lodge. Details from a National Audit Office report show that while the King’s youngest brother, Edward, had to pay a “market value” for his Surrey residence, Bagshot Park, until at least 2007, Andrew never did.

In a further twist, the key details of Edward’s lease after it was renewed in 2007 were redacted on the Land Registry, making it impossible to establish whether he continued to pay a market rent.

Edward was reported to have extended the lease to 150 years for £5 million in 2007. Despite releasing an unredacted copy of Andrew’s lease, the Crown Estate refused to disclose Edward’s at the 51-acre Bagshot Park, his residence for more than 25 years.

As well as redacting the rent paid under the lease, the amount paid to extend the lease was also obscured, as was a section of the tenant’s covenants that would indicate if the rent paid from 2007 would be peppercorn.

It makes me wonder if it will be the place that his dad moved to towards the end of his life.

And I thought American justice moved slowly.

"Andrew will no longer be known as a prince
and is to leave Royal Lodge,
Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

In a bombshell statement released tonight,
Buckingham Palace said
he will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor
- with immediate effect."

Wow!

I guess
earlier Media leaks proved right.
I imagine he is happy to leave the limelight. The media spotlight is too much for him and I think he just wants to hide and hope it all goes away. What does it matter he no longer has titles? How will that effect his life now at the age of 65?

Wow.... King Charles is moving decisively.
Probably long overdue but many considerations had to be dealt with; afaik the daughters will not lose their titles ?

Lammy will need to enact Andrew title removal

Sky News royal correspondent Laura Bundock has a bit more detail on the processes around the latest news with Andrew Mountbatten Windsor - formerly Prince Andrew.

The mechanism by which his titles and honours will be removed will go through David Lammy, in his role as lord chancellor.

Royal warrants will be sent to Lammy, and he will then update the roll of peerages to remove Andrew.

Laura says: "We understood there was one route through parliament, it requires an act of parliament.

"But there is an alternative method which it seems is now being enacted.

"It is a formal process, but what the King is doing is asking the lord chancellor to remove the Duke of York from the peerage roll so it doesn't have to through Parliament in the same way as had been discussed, therefore not taking up valuable time in government."

We are yet to hear anything from the government or Lammy on the matter.
