UK - Prince Andrew accused of underage sexual relationship, 1999-2002 *settled* #2

I’m not convinced it’s all going to charity, unless I missed something (quite possible with my tired head today).

It said he “intends” to make a donation. If it was a legal obligation, it wouldn’t be an intention. If that makes any sense at all. My guess is she got hers and he’s making an additional charity payment.

Would love to be proved wrong if anyone can jump in.

I read it the same way as you did. She got a settlement. Her charity gets a sizable donation. He gets the world off his back. The RF can go back to “normal” now.

Prince Andrew reaches 'settlement in principle' with Virginia Giuffre | Daily Mail Online

Prince Andrew today dramatically settled the bombshell sexual abuse lawsuit with Virginia Giuffre as he agreed an undisclosed deal with his accuser without admitting her accusations.

Court documents filed in New York revealed the Duke of York and Mrs Giuffre, who was previously known as Virginia Roberts, have reached a 'settlement in principle' in the civil sex claim.

Andrew will now make a 'substantial donation' to Mrs Giuffre's charity in support of victims' rights, and praised her 'bravery' and that of other trafficking victims, saying he has 'never intended' to malign her character.

Mrs Giuffre sued the Duke last August, alleging he sexually abused her more than two decades ago when she was 17, a minor under US law, while the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was trafficking her.

And the 61-year-old Duke said in his statement today that he 'regrets his association with Epstein' and pledged to demonstrate this 'by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims'.

An attachment to the letter announcing the settlement to the public and the United States District Court gave brief details of the agreement between Andrew and Mrs Giuffre but indicated the sum would not be disclosed.

Attorney David Boies, who represents Mrs Giuffre, said in a filing that lawyers on both sides were telling the judge that a settlement in principle has been reached and they will request a dismissal of the lawsuit within a month.

The settlement means the civil case will not go to a jury trial, and also that Andrew will no longer be questioned under oath by Mrs Giuffre's lawyers - something that had been expected to take place in the coming weeks.

I dont know that anyone has won here tbh

If some of the payout goes towards helping future trafficking victims, and the whole sordid tale stops the rich elite from taking advantage of young women, that has to be a step forward.

Seems to me it’s going to be hushed up like it was for the other 7 or 8 men (including two ex presidents of the USA, allegedly).

He won’t get the world off his back as this to the majority of people will prove he is guilty.

Most Innocent men don’t spend millions on hushing up the victim. Then add in it’s the Royal Family so it’s even worse he has tried to sweep it under the carpet. This will never be forgotten and it will do massive damage to the Queen.

IMO

IMO

Britain is really not going to notice or care about his absence in public events. As I said earlier in the thread, he has never been one of the most well known or popular members of the royal family. They will continue on just fine.

no matter how he and his lawyers (or any media) spin this it is an admission of guilt, he is paying her an undisclosed sum of money to make her allegations not be examined in court,
so to all intents this is a guilty plea,

I expect he will try to rehabilitate his reputation, but I think he will be as successful as doing that as he was in the car crash interview he gave,

I still wonder where he has got all his money from,

it’s not about events it’s about the media - they won’t let this go. He will now be watched like never before. It won’t be Prince Harry Level but every time he sneezes wrong it will be reported and if he has any more skeletons in his closet as well.

I agree totally...some of the comments on here have been odd at times because for us hes never been a popular or main character apart from when he was in the war I guess. Soon unfortunately the Queen will be no more and at that point Andrew will barely be part of the Royal family anyhow as everyone will just kind of slide along the ranks.

the timing of the settlement...is...odd....
I don't think its odd, he has done it before the time came when he had to be deposed under oath, that IMO would have been something he just couldn't do,

I have everything crossed that after the Queen dies we may not have a royal family like we now do,

Honestly I think he could have made some valid points also in court. I do wish he had gone to court for several reasons. All we have heard is she wouldnt settle and yet suddenly she has which makes me wonder about some things.

They recently sold the chalet...theres money there I guess.

Boies didnt seem to think she would settle.

We will just have Charles Camilla William Kate and their kids I guess.

Well, if this is not an admission of PA's guilt, then I don't know what is.

It seems his lawyers' dream team, after failing every "technicality" they could think of, eventually hit a brick wall.

Well done Virginia!
Best luck to you and your Charity!!!

And, most importantly, when VG could not produce the ‘supposed proof’, the photograph. It was only proof, maybe, that they had met, nothing more but she ‘lost it’?? How convenient, eh?

IF PA donates to VGs charity, she can keep 95% of the monies in most jurisdictions.

As stated by others, on multiple occasions, if PA did have sex with a 17 yr old, it is not a crime in England if he was not aware she was bein* trafficked.

Meh. You’re right it’ll never be forgotten but he’s just not as important or as good tabloid fodder as Harry.

Well, good. It always irritated me that B&E are princesses when Anne & Edward declined titles for their children. Should be direct line of ascent only.

We will go more like the Scandinavian royal families I think, keep much of the pomp and splendour to a minimum. Please no talk of becoming a republic though, can you imagine Boris being our main figurehead, instead of the Queen? Shudder.

but we don't know what other proof their was of any crimes he may have committed as he has chosen to pay to make it go away, we don't know the evidence as he has paid to make it go away, only VG gave depositions under oath, he hasn't as he has paid to make it go away.

IMO you don't pay to settle a case if you had a defence, you pay because you are guilty and you don't want all the details of your crimes being aired in public in a court of law, and again IMO their isn't enough money in the world that would be enough to take away the pain and suffering VG and all the victims of men like Epstein and Prince Andrew have caused, so I hope she got millions for herself and for charity
