I think the tin was a very flimsy excuse and a reason to go there on a non visit day. I wonder if there actually is a tin, has that been proven ? has MM ( grandmother ) confirmed that she was given a tin when she arrived back at CH with AG ?

Also, if there had been a birthday cake, which had been given to SH the week before ( on her birthday ) then surely the most likely place for this to happen would have been CH.
And, wouldn't it be normal to cut the cake there and then and hand round slices.

So I suppose the only way SH ended up with the tin would be if they didn't finish the cake and she took the remainder of it back with her to CML, using the tin to transport it.

I'd like to have heard from MM about the cake tin, e.g. did she want it back quickly, was it rare for MM to go to CH and so it was important the cake tin go back that day.

I wouldn't like to be on a jury, I'd want to be asking my own questions.

thinking further on the 'suicide' theory, perhaps they had set up family conflict deliberately (contriving to get her out of the will for instance) to make it seem that Becky had family problems.

Just musing to myself -
I wonder what NM and SH are thinking right now, as they sit listening to the Judge outlining his guidance to the Jury.

Are they thinking, nope you got that part wrong and feeling pleased with themselves or are they thinking, nooo , that's not how you were meant to interpret it !!

Yes - and that comment from SH ( was it ever verified ) saying that Becky had posted a comment ( or texted ? ) saying

If I disappeared who would care ?

I know the comment hasn't been verified but I don't use fb and I wondered if it would be possible for one of them to have posted it on her account?

As long as they have her email and password, they can get in and post.

We should maybe keep in mind that Nathan had trained as an Army Reserve and IMO to be a reserve or regular serviceman, you have to be a certain kind of person. I'm not saying the forces are full of psychopaths/sociopaths etc BUT you are trained with the though in mind to kill or be killed. I know many of you are more horrified at the dismemberment than anything else and OF COURSE if it were a member of MY family I'd be utterly disturbed BUT the armed forces are trained to distance themselves from what they HAVE to do ...

Hi Bees,

I think you've missed out a bit. There's an "If no" line relating to Q1 missing from your doc

Thank you so much, Clio, for checking it out for me. The same error was in Q 9 TOO!

I took it from 'UK & Eire...' and didn't check it properly for lack of time. I will now call the attention of the admin of the page for it.

Meanwhile it is now amended in One Drive

TY :)

If the judge is still on SH's evidence, I doubt the jury will be retiring to consider today - he's still got JI & DD stuff to go though

Agree, I can see him finishing up tomorrow morning and them going out just before lunch.... on that basis I cant see a verdict/s this week

ETA He is up to JIs evidence now, so he may get finished today

I know what you mean. The fact he/they went shopping for a saw, cling film and all the cleaning products after Becky was killed makes me think that the murder hadn't been pre-planned. They was absolutely nothing organized, hence why he had to involve other people to dispose of the body parts ..... and just taking the body home with him to start with suggests panic to me..... unless he thought she was still alive at that point (which goes against the evidence of being smothered against a hard surface until dead).

It is very puzzling though, because they really didn't need to go to Becky's house at all that day, and the fact they did, when Anjie wasn't in but Becky was, suggests something was planned. But whatever was planned, I don't think it was planned to end with her death at that time/place.

Back to their reason for going there - to return a cake tin which had been used to bake a cake for SH's birthday, wasn't it? I'm presuming NM didn't bake this cake ....... in which case, why would SH even have the tin? If you bake someone a cake, you usually take it out of the tin before you decorate it, let alone hand it over!

Could've been a tin for storing cakes rather than baking them. That's what I've always imagined anyway.

Thanks.

Well that is one plausible theory for how they may have planned to get away with kidnapping Becky.

And what I like about it is that it involves Nathan's tree. The one he was going to tie her to. He just omitted to say that it would be hanging from a branch.

I read through both of these statements, and although I didn't study them carefully they appear to be the same statement except:

1. Strangely, the Sky News account has Matthews's birthday recounted in the very first line while ITV does not.

2. The two accounts have different paragraph breaks.

3. The Sky News version of the statement contains many ellipses. Some examples:

--"Shauna said she wanted a cigarette and went into the garden ..."

--"We leave at about 7pm ... We returned to go to 14 Cotton Mill Lane ... I go and lie on our bed, which is what I would normally do."

--"In order to stop Shauna ... using the bathroom"

I think it's clear that all of these omissions exist because the parts excised refer to the defendants' child. The confession makes more sense knowing this, so I think it's very misleading for ITV to use the headline for their version as "Becky Watts trial: Matthews confession in full". They actually know that it is not the full confession. The Sky News version is more honest in that it makes clear that there is something not reported, something cut out of the confession.

I wouldn't presume to speak for everyone here on this thread but going off the posts so far can you imagine "us" lot on the jury there?

Questions for the judge afterwards! Probably pages of them.
Eye brow raising during NM/SH testimony on the judges bench. Most likely
Eyes on stalks - for sure !
Delayed verdict?

Then ultimately traumatised by the horrific details.....

As a wife of a Serviceman can give a bit of scope...NM was a TA. (Part time Army) called the Terratorial Army. (Home front) would of been taught Army basics. I guess he went on from the Army Cadets he was in as a boy. They would be trained up on warfare, rifle skills, survival techniques, how to use a map and compass etc.. leading to training on military excersizes with The Regular Army based down in Tidworth/ Salisbury. He'd of had experience of battle but of Mock scenario.

Maybe his Fibro caused him to leave.. you know Soldiers can be so competitive. Plus his height. I guess he may of got a bit of jest from others.
I think (imoo) that for him was a big blow to his self esteem. As he seemed to of liked his time there... hmm
Maybe from there he became more and more unravelled... unhinged.
