UK UK - Renee, 36, & Andrew MacRae, 3, Inverness Scotland, 12 Nov 1976 *arrest in 2019, killer died*

Not to mention how she stormed off in the car at the end of the trial. Wonder is she was aware all along and if she gave her husband an ultimatum back in 1976.
Yes, I think this is the case. Even after all those years you could tell she was annoyed giving evidence and more than likely annoyed at having to remember the initial story they concocted. She probably thought she would never have to replay their version again after so long. The fact she dragged McDowall out of the police station in the 1970s and the slip of the tongue mention of "stabbing" in a later interview leads to the likelihood she knew and covered for him.

Are there any more threads on this? I.e any thoughts on where MacDowall may have put the bodies - near his home/in the cottage it is reported by some witness in MSM that he worries about people finding? Yes he's dead/convicted but will the families get even more closure by finding out where they are? What a case.

Expert Witness, Series 4: 11. Blood on the Carpet: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0024gjn via @bbciplayer

They think they may find out where the bodies are using pollen evidence from Bill's car. Really interesting analysis of forensics in this programme - more detail than in the Murder Trail episodes. I hope they do.

Murder investigators hunting for the bodies of Renee and Andrew MacRae have removed a child’s potty and length of carpet found a mile south of the infamous A9 Dalmagarry layby.
...
They were discovered between Tomatin and Invereen junctions during excavation and tree felling work carried out as part of Balfour Beatty’s £185 million Transport Scotland contract for dualling the A9 between Tomatin and Moy.

Before work began, police trying to solve the five decades old mystery of Renee and Andrew’s whereabouts gave contractors a list of items of possible evidence to look out for.

The list... included a suitcase, pushchair, coat and a yellow child’s potty.

Workers found the yellow potty and length of carpet nearby each other in thick undergrowth about 10 days ago.

The site, now screened by temporary red and white metal fencing, is about a mile away from Dalmagarry layby where Renee’s burning BMW car was discovered on the night of her and Andrew’s disappearance on November 12, 1976.

Hope these items are relevant, and it leads to eventually finding them - there's more work due to be carried out in the area so it's good to know the contractors are on the lookout.

''Judge Lord Armstrong described the murders as "executions".

''And in August 2023, police said officers were looking into properties linked to MacDowell as well as other places he may have met Mrs MacRae during their relationship.''

'Police say their inquiries are continuing after an item was found almost a month ago near a quarry which has been at the centre of investigations into the murders of a mother and son in the 1970s.

Renee MacRae's car was found on fire in a lay-by near Dalmagarry Quarry, south of Inverness, on 12 November 1976 but there was no sign of her or three-year-old Andrew.'

'Police Scotland said the item - which the Inverness Courier reported as being a potty and carpet - was found next to the A9 on Thursday 13 March.'
A young policeman had reported an unusual smell at the site but funds to continue this search ran out before its source could be found.''
