This is the other theory which I have my own reservations about.
Not ‘serial killer’ but foxes behind cat mutilations in London, study finds
My reservations are how are body parts returned days later if a fox has scavenged especially as they are reported as looking fresh and perhaps stored in a freezer.
Why have other vets ruled out natural animal scavenging in some of the reports mentioned by both South London Animal Investigation Network and South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty.
Reports of collars being hidden under flower pots and other places which would be impossible for a fox

I personally have a microchip reader and have been to incidents in other areas where cats are without heads so hard to chip check.
Unfortunately foxes will find RTA cats and scavenge the remains or on some rarer occasions kill cats and it looks psychopathic.
Tails and other parts missing and without going into further details it looks like the work of a serial killer especially when left on an owner's driveway or garden.
With this in mind I do believe people get hysterical and create a moral panic on social media before a cat has even been to the vets as I have seen it happen.
However I do believe that a human is also dismembering cats and that there is a pattern with ruled in cases
For example if you look at cases outside of Croydon area in Portsmouth and Southampton it is very often during holiday periods.
CCTV is always dodged which makes me think with the human related cases of cats being mutilated the perpetrator has a good understanding of security cameras and CCTV

The most interesting article I have found about cat mutilations is this one as it talks about reports cats of being mutilated in London during the late 1990's. Again the Mr Fox theory far outweighs there being a human cat killer.

Omg! Why are there so many? So odd.
Many known serial killers if you look back at their past history have previously been convinced for animal cruelty.
I think some animal killers don't move onto humans and perhaps mutilating cats for them represses other urges and gives them their sense of power.
On the other hand maybe the Croydon cat killer has previously killed a human and decided for whatever reason to now stick to cats. If we take for example David Fuller in the news who murdered two women in the 1980's then abused already dead corpses for an extended period of time"
Reports detailed in newspaper accounts show that the blood found on the mutilated cats is sometimes congealed so whoever is doing this may even look for road kill in some instances and get a sick kick out of cutting of limbs and placing them in yards as a form of horror.
Short of prior owner stalking they may even work with animals and have access to a microchip reader and a vets data base to know where owners live as cats are often returned mutilated to the owners gardens or driveways.

I've joined the SNARL Facebook page ( hope that's ok to mention, mods please remove if not) I'm horrified to see how frequently these cases are happening, and so far afield too.
Is it a case of the same person/people travelling up and down the country or a copycat?

What are your thoughts badgersmythe as you have been following the case via the organisation page who are trying to catch the killer so may have more latest insight to share.

yes. they find other food in the cats' stomachs that their owners did not give them.

This article mentions fresh crab sticks which makes me wonder if the killer delivers meat places in a van which includes refrigeration hence body parts returned days later.
How the gruesome death of a pet called Ukiyo sparked three years of Croydon cat killer fear
Quote "The cat killer seemed to strike at night, luring his victims in with pet food, crab sticks or raw chicken.
He was thought to kill them with a blunt object, and then wait for the blood to coagulate before beginning the mutilation".

It seemed he would cut off heads, tails, or paws. Often, as in the case of Ukiyo, the cat would be found with its belly slit open and its entrails removed.

It was as if the corpses were deliberately left on display in places where they would easily be found: on doorsteps, in playgrounds.

This makes a lot of sense BUT the animals that they killed weren’t displayed cruelly in owners yards. That sounds super specific especially for more than one killer doing it. Did they ever say they thought it might be a group of people involved?
