Urfan is seething underneath the veneer it's just he is so used to controlling that side of himself in front of others so will be very careful not to allow the mask to slip imo that's why he is answering with short yes ma'am ,no ma,am .

I would love if urfan exploded like Jack nickelson in a few good men when Tom cruise's character keeps probing and Jack's character after maintaining great composure becomes enraged and shouts "you can't handle the truth " and reveals to the court his true nature . Brilliant scene. I don't know if youtube links are accepted by WS but it's easily looked up
Mr U, are you on any medication today? Oh, is that to calm you & to prevent an explosive outburst? To keep us safe?

When did you start taking this medication?

From bbc linked above.

Carberry KC said Ms Batool was a “vulnerable young woman”, isolated from her family and struggling.

Mr Sharif said: “She is anything but vulnerable. If she can steal jewellery from her friend she is not vulnerable.”

Ms Carberry KC asked him: “Do you remember cutting her clothes with scissors?”

"No ma’am," Mr Sharif said. “She’s a psycho. That is her thing.”

“She’s a psycho and is obsessed with cutting clothes.”
The court heard that he had told social services that they were “a perfect couple".

Guildford Family Court later ordered Mr Sharif to attend a Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programme.

He attended 10 out of the 16 sessions, the court heard.

'As her own'

The jury heard that in 2019 Sara was living with her mother Olga Sharif, but then made allegations of neglect and violence against her.

She said her mother was smoking cannabis, not feeding her, leaving her alone with another child and burning her with a lighter.

Mr Sharif recorded the allegations in a video.

What is this reoccurring issue
of cutting clothes with scissors?

Hmmm....
First Sara was accused of this,
and now U
who in turn alleged it was "psycho B".
(Quoting)

Is it some kind of mental issue?
This preoccupation with cutting/destroying things?

I mean, c'mon
who cuts nice clothes?

Or is it alleged that U thought the clothes were too daring and destroyed them?

Well
Mad house.
These poor children :(

I'm not sure justice for Sara is on her agenda. Her agenda is to try and secure an acquittal for her client. The reason she's trying to destroy Urfan is to try and convince the jury to find Batool not guilty. We need to remember that.
This was also my thought. Allegations of domestic abuse made by former partners (who aren't actually giving evidence in these proceedings) only helps Batool. It's notable that Olga hasn't given evidence, and I'm sure if she had anything of relevance to say (about the treatment of Sara versus the treatment of herself), she would have been called as a witness. This narrative of domestic abuse is designed to make the jury believe that Beinash was a victim, nothing more. And I believe we're only hearing about this in the absence of any evidence that he was in fact abusive towards Batool, which would be far more pertinent to this case than what former partners have previously said. But that's the issue for her, because I believe she's lying.

There are too many inconsistencies in Batool's messages, so I doubt she will risk giving evidence and being cross-examined herself. Her barrister is the best chance she has.

didn't U leave the courtroom last week, or did I imagine it?

Well...

IMO

Allegedly...

At first B seemed to be a Godsent bride for U.
She seemed to be indeed in vulnerable position living in some kind of shelter - according to her Defence.

She was British.

And also helped him obtaining custody of children,
as U&B presented themselves as a "perfect couple" ready to give kids a loving home.
She was financially depended on him.

Hmmm...
How did Pakistani cousin wife fit into this Domestic Bliss?

But
this fairytale went crashing very quickly.
And ended in Court of Law with charges of murder.
With both defendants bitterly accusing each other.
With a mysterious uncle between them.

What a pity there are so few Court sketches.

From Smithpanes link above .... post 1104

Caroline Carberry KC suggested that when Sharif first met Batool, she was aged just 20 and “vulnerable” –.............

............ he had known that Batool had been a “victim of honour-based” abuse and been placed in a refuge when she was a teenager.

When you met her it was very obvious this was a young woman who was isolated from her family and struggling at that time in the world, a vulnerable young woman, just the way you like your partners to be.....
.......

Adding the link again, for clarity

With the drinking. I assumed that Urfan as a Muslim did not drink to excess, but I suspected that he was a dry drunk.
I would think that also violence, debt, infidelity, theft, a failure to protect and ruining the family reputation would go against the Muslim faith as well as drinking alcohol all just MOO
In fact any decent human being really
Please correct me if wrong

The PA report in various papers has an extra bit about the assessment made of him during the domestic violence perpetrators' course:

'Ms Carberry said: “In June 2016, you were ordered by a judge at Guildford family court to undertake a domestic violence perpetrator programme and that course is aimed at those who are deemed to be violent within a family context.

“Do you agree with the assessment of the court that you were a perpetrator of domestic violence?”

Sharif told jurors that it was suggested he do the course if he wanted contact with his family.

As with an earlier “parenting puzzle” course, he did not do “that great”, attending only 10 out of 16 sessions, Ms Carberry said.

The defendant rejected a course assessment that he could be “very manipulative” as well as concern he was unable to listen, “explore past behaviours” and “show empathy”.'

This defendant seems to be rejecting everything
that does not fit his image of
"loving father, hardworking bread winner, protector of family".

There are people in this world who believe in images created by their minds.

Because the reality is too difficult to accept.
A lot of people live in denial, unfortunately.

There is even a medical name for this syndrome.

I would not read anything favourable to Urfan Sharif in the fact that Olga hasn't been called to give evidence in person. She was said to be vulnerable and perhaps with learning difficulties and she hasn't had contact for a long time. They don't need to put her through the stress when there is so much other more recent evidence against him. 'This narrative of domestic abuse' has been witnessed by a lot of people as a pattern of his behaviour. Of course BB's lawyer is bringing out that side. I do not believe that he suddenly changed from a bully to a man frightened of a much younger woman.

I won't be surprised either way as to Beinash giving evidence, but if people avoided doing it because of inconsistencies, Urfan would hardly have given evidence himself. They've both told a lot of lies, surely.

Update by DM

"Sara Sharif's father

smiles in the dock

as jury shown video of him repeatedly slapping her across the face."

Yes, but I don't think any journalist described how this happened.

They did.

It was reported U had emotional moment, crying
when neighbours described screaming & "effing", slapping sounds by B. in the house.

It is in the links in this thread.

Found it
