Do all police not have a taser or something similar that might be involved ?
Of course not sure details of guy's arrest yet or if was on duty...

BBC Breakfast news has just broadcast that a press statement from the police expected at 08:30 (it's 08:04 here)

Any indication this statement is written or going to be delivered by conference? Just wondering if we can catch it live. Did BBC say they would cover it?

A number of folks on the London subreddit talking about a vehicle accident theory based on how closely the roadside/drains were being looked at.

They are presumably London folks that do not live anywhere near?

The south circular is London's inner ring road. There are vehicles passing every few seconds. It's utterly inconceivable to me that any vehicle stopped on this road (also red route, no stopping) would not attract attention.

What is more likely in your opinion?

That the woman arrested has hidden evidence or similar rather than actively involved in what happened to Sarah.

Very few cops in the uk can carry a taser

Sounds like it'll be delivered via press conference. I'm watching Sky and they're going to be covering it.

Thanks - I didn't know that. That could certainly make things a bit more complex.

That sort of information could possibly be found very easily on ancestory or similar if true.

No, British police do not routinely carry them, it's specialist trained officers only, and they do not take them home from their shifts. If he was on shift, then another layer of complexity, especially as Met police are usually in pairs.

BBC article on police and tasers:

Should all frontline police officers use Tasers?

JMO but:

highly unlikely: police officer uses their job as a reason to stop a complete stranger and do something untoward to them.

far more likely: a person (who happens to be a police officer) is seeing/having some sort of relationship with a woman who already has a boyfriend. Woman arranges to go to his flat to end it/finish an argument/discuss things. Something goes horribly wrong (‘crime of passion’) - officer flees to eg his mum’s house (note he was ‘arrested in Kent’, not ‘from Kent’).

MOO but think this sounds far more feasible than rogue officer using his role to commit crimes against women. Not impossible - but less likely IMO.

Also think the accident scenario is a possibility - esp if eg there was drink driving involved - but for reasons people have already said, harder to cover up or to happen without anyone noticing.

Dorset police officer accused of murder 'destroyed lover's life'

This is very much what this got me thinking of

Officers qualified to use Taser will check a Taser out from the armory storage area. The officer's supervisor will record the serial number of the Taser that has been checked out on the Patrol log. Officers are responsible for checking out and returning the Taser before and after each shift. The on duty supervisor will also ensure that the units are checked out and checked in properly and in compliance with this policy. It's almost impossible that a Taser was used in this case.

Sky said they are trying to verify the source they have for this which is why they haven't reported it properly yet, so imo for Ws rules can't be taken as fact til then
