If he thought that a rental car would help he's a bit stupid given the fact the details of the renter are all recorded... MOO

SBM for focus - now that is really bizarre!

The Sun has both hired

"The movements of the car, believed to have been hired, were said to have been tracked by ANPR cameras from the scene."

and by DashCam

"Cops moved in on married dad-of-two PC Couzens after a car linked to him was allegedly spotted on a motorist’s dashcam near to where Sarah was last seen on the night of Wednesday March 3."

Interesting....

Given the speed that this has moved over the past 24 hours I think LE have played a good hand so far.

I appreciate that whilst it appears as if there has been clear escalation etc. in the behaviour of the suspect - there is nothing yet to definitively say that WC is responsible for a host of all edged crimes. (Personally I feel that more and more will unravel and incidents will be linked to him as time rolls on).

The Met have clearly kept important cards close to their chest i.e the potential for camera footage to have captured WC and SE together. The likelihood of WC’s hire vehicle being spotted and tracked using ANPR etc. on the offence. It would have been easy to come out early on with a potential efit, reg etc from CCTV, instead of how they have clearly given WC a false sense of security. For all we know, LE could have been into WC within 72 hours but wanted to make sure they could meet the thresholds to ultimately seek a charge for Murder.

I’m equally shocked around the profession of the suspect, however, it’s important to remember that for every good person in this world - there will always been evil. As highlighted by another poster, individuals who are an extreme risk to others do not advertise the fact and often will go through massive lengths to cover up their wrongdoing.

The exact mechanics of the crime and its build up will come out in due course. Tonight I just pray for SE’s family.

Bloody hell if that’s true about the dashcam footage and this is indeed random, surely she wouldn’t be his only victim!

But there would have been lots of cars about in the part of London. Why pinpoint his?!

I still think there a connection and maybe they found hun through phone records

they were looking specifically at cars on Poynders road in a small time window denoted by SE’s final conversation and the last phone mast ping. I always suspected it wasn’t that many vehicles in this particular window

Good theory.
Possibly speeding down to Dover on his bike, back and forth?
Perhaps that's why LE took the motorbike to match soil on tyres?

JMO

There doesn’t look to be anywhere near enough police activity there to suggest that. It’s just been taped off. Doesn’t even look like it’s been searched.

Plus the location of the searches being between Clapham and Deal suggests that, and I hope this for her sake, that she wasn’t alive beyond that night.

The remains location looks like a drop on the way back rather then somewhere you would drive back 30 miles North of Deal to conceal a body later

I shared this earlier from the Traffic cam, I trawled through so many of them and this one I kept coming back to. I believed the car to be similar to the one in the driveway but that is irrelevant now that the car WC travelled in was revealed to be a hire car. This is highly likely to be WC or the car that picked him up on their dashcam.

Phew finally caught up, wow this thread moves fast !
One thing puzzling me , does anyone know the reasons why the press would have an embargo with the info about the body ? It seems it was mentioned in one paper then quickly deleted and not mentioned in any others for quite a while?

One thing to bear in mind here is that the nature of the accused job he will be vetted to the nth degree. Not sure there is a published list but protecting nuclear sites and diplomatic protection, your basically getting developed vetting.

For those not familiar with DV it’s the highest grade of background checking in the UK. They know everything about you - bank statements, phone activity, internet activity, network and relationships.

They won’t assess you based on things like legal use of adult material or unethical things like affairs as long as you don’t lie to them about it.

But essentially what I am saying here is when applying and for the duration in that role in the police his digital footprint will have been closely monitored, so there were obviously no red flags that you might expect from someone who might commit a crime of this nature or anything else overly suspicious about him historically

The search for Sarah Everard: What we know about her last movements

I don’t remember reading anything about the recovery of these two number plates before?! Linked to the hire car theory maybe? But I would presume if he removed his number plates he wouldn’t leave them where she had last been seen. And also surely he wouldn’t risk being picked up for driving without number plates? So possibly not.

I felt very sad looking on Google maps how once off the M25 the roads get gradually more secluded until you're in the middle of nowhere. I can't begin to imagine the terror she faced if she was conscious. I sadly think it would have been very obvious to her what her fate was. I just hope that she knew deep down that as bleak as it seemed, he would not get away with it.

I hope the reality is kicking in as he lies there tonight that he won’t be a free man ever again. Enjoy the target on your back.

Possibly they learned that some family members had yet to be advised.

Quite normal in the UK for there to be embargos on things like that. Gives the police time to talk to the family and for the family to share the news with the people important to them before it is made public. Although we have a lot of gutter press, they will usually tend to abide by these requests.

To allow all family to be notified.

Maybe to give time for family to be updated, and for family to update other family members/friends?
Or maybe due to details regarding the investigation Or it’s just not our business!

and this why it’s become a lot more complex IMO. Something doesn’t sit right for me

<modsnip: The found remains have not been publicly and official identified>

Where the forensics are working, there is a house on the corner and the site is gated so I guess he must have had access to the area / know the land owners otherwise he may have been caught trespassing. The burnt out car at the site was an older dumped vehicle (Ford Ka) so probably not the rental?
Shows how pre-meditated it was with the planning, locations, vehicles, etc..

I've been praying for a week that this wouldn't be the outcome.

However, now that it seems like it is, whilst I see a lot of people say they hope there aren't other victims of WC, I feel the opposite: I hope that WC is linked to many other unsolved crimes... crimes which have already been committed to persons whose families have not yet been able to grieve properly / cannot be at peace if they do not know what has happened to their loved ones.
If anything, it would be better for their families if WC is the perp of those crimes too, so that we know he is off the streets for good and not a danger to others, plus multiple convictions would ensure that this disgusting [insert expletive here] never sees the light of day again.
