Does anyone know how ANPR works? Does it involve lots of eyes visually watching footage? Or is it advanced enough that you can enter a reg number and it'll go ping ping ping this is where that car has been...?

Based purely on watching programmes like 24 hours in police custody I think that is how it works, I imagine all the info is stored digitally and it can be interrogated

More of a general question if I’m allowed to ask please....would the accused murderer (WC in this case) be aware of the huge media interest that is quite rightly going on surrounding this case? Are the Police obliged in anyway to tell the accused of what is being reported in the news and media or would they not say anything thing incase the killers motivation is to have notoriety? Also is the accused Lawyer allowed to speak to the accused in private or does there always have to be Police present or LE present? Thanks and sorry if not allowed as it’s not directly related to this case.

I doubt they would tell him about the media interest , he probably already knows anyway as it was there from when she went missing.

yes he most certainly will be able to speak in private with his solicitor that is his right and the police must not listen in to that it is confidential between him and his solicitor, privileged communication.

According to Kent Live News:
" Police 'had car registration number' of flasher
Reports are emerging that police had details about the car used by the person who committed the indecent exposure in McDonald's in South London three days before Sarah Everard's disappearance...
According to the Sun, eyewitnesses at the burger bar in South London took details of the vehicle allegedly used by a man who flashed at staff before running off. "

p.s please correct me if I haven't done this right.

So the registration number was provided to LE, but as mentioned before, it does not necessarily mean it had been looked into.
JMO- It will have been logged onto the system, but maybe still waiting to be investigated, so once the registration number came up again, it would have linked the two.

thanks so much for the explanation. Much appreciated.

While I can see where your coming from, it’s more likely to have come from evidence they have gathered.

From following previous cases they track cars through ANPR and use that to piece together the journey. Some cars also have trackers which they can pin point locations with.

If members of the public had found further evidence or worse case a body then I’d imagine it’d be covered in the press fairly quickly

That is true and reassuring to think about. I’m not familiar with the location so didn’t know how far ANPR would track to the specific location as I presumed it was maybe in the middle of nowhere, but hopefully that is the case.

I did think that if a member of the public found something then it would be publicised more so thinking about that more, I think my suspicions are probably (hopefully!) wrong.

Thank you.

"The main nefarious activities are cottaging and dealing, neither of which seem particularly relevant"

They are relevant in that they show his willingness to participate in things that are illegal, no?

@MrsKierkegaard

The bits in italics I C&P from the last thread which closed before I managed to send my reply

I haven't seen any source which suggests he had any connection with either activity, and was wondering if you could link your source. I don't think being near Clapham Common in itself is evidence of a connection, otherwise you'd also be saying that everyone else who travelled through was willing participant?

Hi, sorry if I offended in any way, I'm not local to Clapham so I'm not au fair with what goes on there, only rumours and speculation. Happy for post to be reported for deletion if you feel that.

Also I'm aware that rumours circulate about all sorts of places too.. god knows theres a place 5 minutes down the road from me which I've never even ventured to in daylight never mind after dark.

My tenuous link was that often in these cases where there are sexual offenders, they start off with "harmless" stuff but escalate into more and more extreme stuff for their own "fulfulment"... e.g. progressing through normal 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 to bdsm, rape fantasy 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 and then even worse (stuff that doesn't bear thinking about) no links but too often I see reports of people caught with indecent images who started out "normally" but ended up getting worse and worse. The link is that sexual offenders often cross boundaries between exhibitionism/voyeurism (so WC might cross the Common to observe) sorry if this breaks TOS please let me know and I'll delete.

You would more likely take J9 as it’s much easier and doesn’t take you through much of Ashford. Still a lot of cameras on the way though all the way from the J9 roundabout until you get to the Matalan store.

Hi by the way! Another newbie after reading here for the last few days.
I live in Great Chart with Singleton (Singleton side), just on the other side of the Great Chart Bypass. Around 5 minutes drive from the old leisure centre.

I can’t really process what has happened so close to home. Poor SE. Cant stop thinking about her and her family.

The entire area, also coming over to the new Chilmington Green development and then down into Singleton has a lot of secluded areas where regular fly tipping happens. I think the police must be pretty sure about where there are searching as otherwise I would have thought they’d have expanded much more into the surrounding areas.

Now the media is saying the body is hers, before it was "human remains". What's the difference? Was she found in one location or spread across multiple places?

Unless that is his weird thing, I expect the body or what remains will be in one place. He's going to be somewhat forensically aware and know that the more it's spread out, the more likely it is come across.

I want to share my thoughts - this is purely based on my feelings in how this is turning out and what Ive seen in other crime cases.

This operation seems exceedingly large for just 1 body, especially when the body has been recovered. With multiple sites being covered it's unlikely he could of created such a large crime scene in the time it took for his arrest from moment poor SE was taken.

The mention of the Micro SD card at his house and this being raised makes me think this was a significant find and lead this operation into a whole other direction.

With resources at the woods, the golf course, his garage and house I wonder if they discovered the SD card contained photos of other bodies and the subject WC in the photos directly linking him rather than just been a private horrible photo collection. Imagine the TV show Dexter when he had the blood slides and he hid them inside his house - most serial killers will take trophies.

Police installing porta loos at the house, and the golf course along with cabins and the mobile command units - this is a very large case and in the event of 1 body they wouldnt need this many resources. Theres been murder scenes where the body has been discovered then its left to a small team to clean up / collect evidence.

Three scenarios I think

1. All of the above writing but they dont have enough evidence to connect him to ALL cases - they dont want him to get just 1 life sentence they want him to never get out.
2. MET are taking this EXTREMELY seriously due to the damage it is causing PR wise and they have been told to use every resource.
3. Both of the above.

-----

Aside from all this discussion I want to say my heart breaks for SE family - I hope they get justice and if hes found guilty he needs to rot in a cell for what he has done.

ANPR would not have been able to track WC all the way to this location. It is rural. The nearest traffic cameras are 2.5-3 miles away from the site.
