UK UK - Sarah Wellgreen, 46, Kent, 9 Oct 2018 #2 *B. Lacomba guilty*

  • #641
Just adding this in here as don't know if there is a separate thread - I was not aware of this case, so all credit goes to Amonet who flagged it up to me today.

Second verdict today - both Kent, both with body never found. Jury went out on Friday for this one.

A man has been found guilty of murdering his pregnant wife and disposing of her body 20 years ago.

Debbie Griggs has not been seen since she disappeared from the family home in Deal, Kent, on 5 May 1999.

Jurors at Canterbury Crown Court rejected Andrew Griggs's claims that his wife, then aged 34, had walked out on him and their three young sons.

Griggs, of St Leonards in Dorset, was convicted of her murder and will be sentenced on Wednesday.

The body of Mrs Griggs has never been found.
There's one here:

I think AG had access to a boat.

19 - 22 years ... I'd highly doubt that he'll get a whole life sentence for this.

Although there was almost certainly pre-planning - it's his first crime, no torture or sexual element etc ... 2 of the more recent whole life sentences handed out were Mark Bridger and Jamie Reynolds and as awful as this murder is, especially without the family at least being able to have any closure (I hate that word but,) Ben Lacomba is not on the same level as Bridger and Reynolds. IMO

Things may be different in Scotland but this case is more recent and seems quite similar.

Jesus kent are not getting a good run. Dont know what it says for local LE ...2 in a row never been found!
I hope we found out that LE did more than we thought in SW case as it seemed they missed quite a few opportunities to take evidence etc.
Poor kids though

The Griggs family have been waiting 20 year for justice and we find out today her blood was found in the car. Not good.

Well... That's shocking! And alot of the village people felt the same! I'd like to know where NJ has been hiding all this time as he most certainly hasn't been out searching for his beloved fiancée like he's led everyone to believe. And he's apparently back on tinder. I know people move on but jesus that quickly over something so devastating?

Not sure if this has been discussed so do forgive me but this had me thinking about 'helens law' where the murderer wont be released until they reveal the victims whereabouts. I done a quick Google search and came across this article. Seems the law is not passed yet? But would be great if this applied to lacomba.

It's really not for us to judge how someone else grieves or how quickly they 'move on'. Lacomba has been found guilty and pretty decisively too.

Not sure which post you were replying to Lacey - did you mean the verdict was shocking ?

Re NJ and searching. I seem to remember reading that he was told not to search by the police.

Really glad to hear he was found guilty!! The court reports led to no other option, so in addition to bits we won’t have heard about (reporting restrictions etc) he seemed bang to rights. I’m glad the Jury git it done so quickly

I wonder if the extended time for a sentencing may be due to the body? Could be a case for a much heavier minimum tariff if he refuses to say where the body is... I just hope that he now will open up for the sake of his kids.

Also be interesting to hear of mummy’s involvement in the next few days
He's probably still denying he's done it , evil man

He likely found out during the trial that he wasn’t actually in an exclusive relationship with her. There was a huge kick off about a year or so ago with him and someone else who I can’t remember, regarding that relationship.

Yes, so similar to another highly suspicious husband (of missing Michelle Parker, Florida) who appeared on the People's Court, I think. Another example of the gulf between how these men are unable to perceive how they appear to everyone else. Although in Michelle's case her ex has so far escaped court even though he is almost certainly guilty. It could have happened with Lacomba and I am so glad the case got to court and the jury saw through him. A very quick and confident verdict so I think the evidence must have been stronger than it appeared through the reporting.

Tune into YouTube for many more examples of narcissistic, lazy, entitled, unfaithful, utterly selfish husbands as now all the episodes of Unsolved Mysteries with the legendary Robert Stack, the great music and reconstructions are up legitimately. Completely addictive and I can see why so many of our US friends remember it so vividly. There is a running list/top ten of husbands in the comments of "I'm a terrible liar and I clearly did it". Also updates tagged onto the episodes. Very interesting to see early reports on some very famous cases but also really sad to see some terrible cases where some victims have never been found and no-one has faced justice. I don't have much hope that Lacomba will admit to what he did with Sarah's body as I think he will continue to insist he is innocent. And we all know that whatever the sentence people get released so early that they are often meaningless. I still have horrible feeling that he put her in water and got lucky with the tides. Maybe on a river bed, shovelled some mud over, would be a lot easier than digging in a wooded area with all the tree roots, next tide comes in and body is lifted away.

You know, I realise now, we DID know ... I just forgeot!

Watching the clip reminded me ... he tried to say a girl owed him 4,500 in rent so that he could use the money to pay for solicitor fees in his court case with Sarah over the kids

Ben Lacomba appears on Judge Rinder in 2015 appealing for more money from his child’s carer Leanne

He was in a long lasting relationship with leanne, and the Sw decided to stalk leanne place of work to then befriend her. Odd behaviour but they became very close friends

You know this as fact? Or just local hearsay/gossip?

I know which one of the 2 I'd rather be friends with!
