The speed seems to have caught everyone by surprise.

I wonder if the bail application was what made them take it to Crown Court today - possibly Magistrates were not able to rule on it at their level.
Otherwise, doesn't really seem urgent to do both courts today. I know I said earlier they perhaps wanted to do it all before Christmas, but thinking about it, what difference does it make. BL would have been on remand either way.

No report of BL giving a guilty plea as that would be main news. Also possibly applying for bail would suggest BL has given a not guilty response to the charges?

Thinking if BL pled guilty he would have given some info of where he placed SW, so am waiting to hear if she has been found. omo

At Maidstone Crown Court this afternoon, Judge Philip Statman refused the bail application despite Lacomba’s lawyer David Sadeh submitting a “package” of stringent conditions could be imposed.

“The enquiry is still at the embryonic starting point,” said the judge.

“It would be fair and proper that should a further bail application be made, it would be further considered by the court.”

Lacomba is due to enter a plea to murder on January 18. A provisional trial date was set for June 18 next year.

The judge said it was not yet known whether or not the case would be tried by a High Court judge.

Not understanding this at all. (BBM in link above)
A murder charge is always tried at High Court I thought, so why this query?
I am very unconvinced about these charges being brought but I could be misunderstanding, have to wait and see I suppose all may be clarified later.

Isn't it strange? Yes, we'll have to wait and see.

I wonder where he would have gone, had bail been granted.

Re: the judge's comments, on reflection I suppose it is because her body hasn't been found. Much more evidence required in such cases, but why charge him now ? Are police hoping being charged and held he will admit guilt and provide details, since they cannot find SW so have little to go on?

So relieved to hear that SW's youngest 3 children will be with her side of the family.. I was wondering what would happen there, considering BL's mom used to look after the kids.. but thinking surely, they wouldn't let them go with the murder suspect's family.

I don't know what would've happened had BL's parents been the only option to have the kids. I mean, it's not like they're less loving grandparents than they were before, but it would seem a bit wrong. What a hideous situation for them, too.

Remember Police are forensically examining his taxi. Has there been some evidence found already & forensic team continue examining taxi?

MOO

Except that.... from the sounds of it... BL's mom was willing to go along with his crazy shenanigans in locking her in the bedroom with the children just so that SW couldn't take them away. It seems that she either agreed, or was too weak to fight him on this. Which could then mean that she could potentially get asked by her son to do other things not right, even while he's in jail. (Such as perhaps leading the children into saying certain things about the night in question, etc.)

Oh, I didn't know about all that. Poor kids, their lives have been torn apart.

Have you got a link for this allegation?

I can't find the one I am thinking of which I am *sure* it said locked in with his mother, but here is one:

After days of revelations about her life, one of her close friends has told The Times that Ms Wellgreen had been involved in a custody battle with Mr Lacomba that was so acrimonious that he once locked their children in a room to prevent her leaving with them.

No trace of Sarah Wellgreen, mother with a tangle of relationships

Sorry, it was in same article:

“Originally the kids stayed with Ben,” Ms Edwards said. “He locked the children in the bedroom with his mother so Sarah couldn’t take them. She now has full custody,” she added.

This feels like a case that will definitely be made into a behind the scenes documentary ...
