PC Matthew Thomas gives evidence

The court heard He attended 22 Bazes Shaw at 6.45pm on October 11 unannounced.

Both were uniformed and in a marked car.

They had been asked to return to the address to “search for any items that might assist with the search for Sarah Wellgreen and seize any items that might assist with finding her”.

Lacomba was outside by the boot of his taxi in car park 1 at the time.

He asks officers what house number they were looking for and they say 22.

Lacomba explained that his house is 22 Bazes Shaw.

He did not ask whether they knew anything of Sarah’s whereabouts.

Lacomba speaks to the officers outside the property and says female officer - PC Manley - had already found phones, keys, bank card and that the CCTV cameras weren’t working.

They then go upstairs to Miss Wellgreen’s bedroom.

“He said his mother was staying in Sarah’s bed and some of the bags belong to his mother.” - PC Thomas. “I found a sim card and a mobile phone in the side drawer cabinet. There were two empty photo frames on the wall at the end of the bed.”

PC Matthew Thomas's evidence continues: Lacomba denies argument

When photographed on October 16, the photo frames were not present.

They then searched Miss Wellgreen’s car before Lacomba showed them children’s bedrooms.

Officers then searched Lacomba’s bedroom in the loft conversion.A white CCTV system box was on a red leather box which Mr Lacomba explained “he had found the CCTV switched off and believed that Sarah had switched it off so he would not be able to see her coming and going from the address.”

PC Thomas looked at the system and the lights were on to suggest it was switched on but he did not see a monitor connected to it. Lacomba explained “either himself or Sarah Wellgreen had put the monitor in the children’s bedrooms to use as a television. He stated that the hard drive was not working and hadn’t worked for about 12 months. He said that she (Sarah) believed the hard drive was recording.”

Another officer, a PC Watt finishes searching the bedroom and goes to check garden and outbuildings.

PC Thomas looks at the gate area and the alleyway.

PC Watt asks Lacomba whether the pair had had an argument and Lacomba says “there had not been an argument”.

PC Watt suggests there may have been an argument about whether or not he had gone through her phone but Lacomba denied that.

PC Callum Watt gives evidence: 'Sarah Wellgreen regularly on Tinder'

The court heard how he looked in Lacomba’s taxi and found freshly bought groceries in the boot.

Lacomba told PC Watt: “She was dating multiple people at that time and had 6 or 7 mobile phones. He mentioned that she was regularly on Tinder.

One of the men was a gentleman who worked on an oil rig.

Lacomba identified the phone that Sarah used regularly but said “it wasn’t at home”.

“He was very pleasant to speak with. He was overly helpful. I explained that we would need to search the house and her car. He stood in the doorway as I searched the bedroom. He pointed out that his mother had been staying in the bed.”

Miss Wellgreen’s jewellery box was located, as was her purse.

PC Watt says there were three empty photo frames in the bedroom. Lacomba said he “knew no reason and had not noticed them before”.

Lacomba gives police a passcode to one of the phones which he says was given to him by a child.

Lacomba said they had been married before, broken up, she had messaged him about trying again, they tried for a couple of weeks but it didn’t work so they decided to co-parent.

Lacomba approached PC Watt with a phone “to prove that there had been no argument between the two of them”.

PC Watt begins to make house-to-house enquiries.

Tomorrow (October 8), Woolwich Crown Court jurors will hear evidence from Marilyn Lacomba.

I wonder what BL's explanation is for *knowing* all this information about S's texting, dating apps, guy on an oil rig, etc.?? And I wonder if any of his information has been substantiated. (Not that it is even relevant, other than apparently in the mind of BL?)

I wonder who was pictured in the 3 empty photo frames in S's bedroom, and why they were missing? Would be great if there was a photo available for just before she 'disappeared' to see if the photos were missing then as well!

So first BL tells the officers that S had 6 or 7 cellphones, and then only hands them *one* of them 'to prove' there had been no arguing between them. That makes sense!

This is *very* telling. Under the circumstances, wouldn't one assume that might be WHY police were visiting, to advise of some kind of news??:

ETA: Except that it's a feature that would have needed to have been set up, and perhaps, IF BL's claims are true about multiple 'suitors', she may not have wanted such a feature?

I wondered if BL had had the idea to make it look as though SW was planning to go away - taking the photos from the frames - which were possibly photos of her children.

The clothes in the suitcase - not sure about that. Was he trying to pretend that SW had some plan to run away with her children ? and that she was moving their clothes to another place in preparation for moving out altogether ?
Or was it genuine ? SW did move from place to place, perhaps she planned to take the children somewhere for a short stay ?

I think it is overly odd that the frames were empty. Who does that? If empty, put them away in a drawer or something? BL seemed obsessed with which men and how many men S was communicating with.. my bet is that S had photos perhaps of herself and Neil, or perhaps her younger children with Neil's child, and he hated it, so removed when/since he knew she wasn't coming home.. possibly feelings shared by his mother, who was then going to stay in her bedroom. imo.
