UK, Scotland & Ireland - Coronavirus COVID-19

It never crossed my mind that someone may use CV as a cover for murder.

Detectives will work with body recovery teams to check if there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths of suspected coronavirus victims who die in the community.

Small police units are undergoing training alongside fire brigade and NHS staff to collect the dead across London and ease pressure on under-strain hospitals and the London Ambulance service.

The teams, who have been given personal protective equipment (PPE), will attend houses, care homes, and hospices to confirm the death and identity of the deceased.

Pandemic Multi-Agency Response Teams began working in the capital last Tuesday amid projections that around one third of suspected Covid-19 deaths could happen outside hospitals.

Team members are understood to have volunteered to take on the role, with Scotland Yard Superintendent Wayne Matthews telling them they should not “underestimate how unpleasant this task is going to be”.

“What we are asking the officers to do is essentially deal with one fatality, then another and then another,” he told the PA news agency.

“So obviously the mental robustness and physical aptitude to be able to do this is why we asked for volunteers, people who felt they were able to do this.”

After dealing with a case, the teams have the option of a “decompression period” to help them deal with the mental toll.

The Russians are massive stirrers!
Put your wooden spoons down, Russia, get your beaks out of our business, and tell us what's really happening in your mysterious land.
Spot on Cags. I’d say the Russian numbers are as accurate as the Chinese ones.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been taken into intensive care in hospital with coronavirus.

He has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise for him, a No 10 spokesman said.

Thank you @JerseyGirl . He has done a decent job of leading us through this so far, and thankfully has had the grace and sense to let the medical and scientific experts work very closely with him. While I am worried for him right now, I feel fairly confident those experts will continue to steer us.

Thoughts and wishes for Mr. Johnson's complete recovery. In my very non political opinion, he is an outrageous, lovable galute. I hope that is interpreted kindly because that is how it is intended.

He was a strange choice to be British PM for all those reasons! An acquaintance worked for him when he was Mayor of London and said of all the politicians he was by far the most fun with a few drinks in him, a funny and popular man by all accounts :D

Get well soon, Boris!

Hope he makes a good recovery, I've been impressed by his handling of this situation these last few weeks, he was really the right person to bring the message of unity across to everyone, and I do hope he hasn't made himself more vulnerable to the virus by overworking while trying to fight it. It really brings it home just how serious this is when even the prime minister can end up in intensive care; nobody is immune :(
