The sister of missing Fraserburgh man Shaun Ritchie has demanded Police Scotland launch a fresh search for her brother after 10 months of talks between officers and an expert grave finder.

Nicole Shand told The Press and Journal she doesn’t understand why discussions are taking so long, saying she has had no contact with officers since the talks began last November.

The discussions are between police and Dr Alastair Ruffell – an internationally renowned forensic geologist who helped in the original search for Shaun.

Officers leading the Shaun Ritchie search were assisted by Professor Lorna Dawson and Dr Ruffell in 2015
In November last year, the scientist said he had new sonar drone technology which he believed could assist officers in a fresh search for the missing 20-year-old.

Nicole Shand, Shaun’s sister, believes if there is any chance the new equipment could help solve her brother’s case then Police Scotland should take it.

She said: “I feel like we have been waiting for a response for a long time now.

“They have been in discussions for a while regarding an answer for a fresh search for my brother Shaun.

“If it has some potential then I feel they should be doing it.

“I haven’t had any contact from the police since it was announced they were in discussions.

“I don’t have to be in regular contact at all times – but it would just be comforting as a family to receive an update of what the plans are.”

It is Shaun Ritchie’s birthday today, please keep his family in your thoughts

I really do wish that Police Scotland would change this from a missing person to a cold case. The Detective Inspector is adamant Shaun never left the area of Greenburn.
I did do a quick internet search on this detective to see if there were any concerns over his abilities.
Fair enough the extent of the search was substantial given the amount of resources used in the search for Shaun.

However, the phone call that was made to police asking for help then being cancelled should raise questions if indeed Shaun found himself lost in the bog/peat area where items of clothing were found. Who made the phone call? What time lapsed between the phone calls?

There was also the incident in the van as it arrived at it's destination that caused all 7 (Shaun and friends) to run in opposite direction because they feared something would happen. It's just a shame that the group split into two with his friends believing Shaun was with the other group. What caused all 7 individuals to take off like that?
How did his friends travel back to Fraserburgh? And when did they discover the Shaun wasn't with them?
And why did no one report this incident to the police on the Saturday?
A full 24 hrs passed by before a missing person report was made for Shaun.

The incident in the van/Kersiehill farm was reported to the police and an individual was charged but found not guilty. This incident involved an axe on the same night. (I have yet to find the actual court case information or relevant articles in the paper). Was this the incident that caused the 7 to flee? The person who was charged with this, is the driver of the van that Shaun and friends travelled with that night.
Police Scotland believe there is no link between the two, what are they privy too that we are not to make that decision?

The white van was it even looked at? Police are sure that Shaun never left the area?? Why?

I did see someone tried to access police records, however were denied. It would be interesting to see what these hold.
I'd love to see the case files. There's so many questions that need to be answered.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but there is a Documentary called Missing from the Broch about Shaun's case. I have yet to watch this but plan to this evening. I might have more unanswered questions.

Missing Shaun Ritchie since 31st October 2014.

Strange case this, Shaun was last seen with friends at a farmhouse near Banff / Fraserburgh. A call to emergency services was made asking for assistance then a second call was made cancelling the assistance requested. Nobody knows what happened to Shaun, his dad suspects foul play.

Will add more links as I go. Here is the family's Facebook page for Shaun.

There is a documentary: Missing from the Broch. By the Press and Journal.
I will try to find the link to include that let's you watch it without subscription.
The calls are both believed to be from Kersiehill farm and not Shaun himself or his friends.
In fact not one of his friends checked to see if Shaun had made it home until Sunday afternoon. Fair enough they got a scare on the Friday evening and were possibly nursing hangovers on Saturday but you'd check to see if everyone got home safely that day?
Parents and sister were not concerned until one of the pals came by the house to ask if Shaun was home (Sunday). He had been know to stop out over the weekend with pals.
What has been reported on the documentary says that there was an incident at the farm (not the actual destination) and the group fled. There were the driver and his pal in the front. Shaun and his friends in the back. The group split into 2, each group believed Shaun was with the other group. But as we know now he was with neither.
