GUILTY UK - Six Philpott children, ages 5-13, die in Derby arson fire, 11 May 2012

^ That makes me sick. I know he's his lawyer but I don't know how he can make himself say that. Mick needs to never be released. I know that won't be the anywhere near the case though.

After his history and the serious nature of this conviction - even though its manslaughter its just at the borderline between manslaughter and murder - I think he should get a life sentence and a lengthy tarrif. That way if he's ever let out at all, he'll be very old and under the supervision of the probation services till he dies.

Life it is for Mick...

Mick Philpott, who killed his six children in a house fire in a botched attempt at revenge after his mistress walked out, has today been sentenced to life in prison, while wife Mairead received 17 years.

"I have not the slightest doubt that Mick Philpott was the driving force behind this shockingly dangerous enterprise. You bark orders and they obey...you were the kingpin."

He will serve a minimum of 15 years.

That's good to hear, with the delay in giving the sentence I was worried he'd get less. It's just a pity that life doesn't actually mean life

In response, Philpott smiled and made an obscene gesture as he was led from the dock.
I hope someone wipes that smile off his face soon

That's far too light a minimum tarrif. He should have got at least 30, the 🤬🤬🤬.

In 15 years time he'll be 71, and he doesn't seem to take care of himself. I doubt he'll last that long.

Our legal system here is so poor. I don't believe in the DP, but we've gone so far the other way. Life should mean life, he killed 6 children as they slept - if he can't be locked up for life there is something really wrong.

I see the Philpott case is being used to demonize people on benefits.

This is just wrong.

I made a complaint to the Press Complaints Commission about this (I doubt it will make any difference). When I saw the Daily Mail's headline when I walked into a shop yesterday morning actually made me feel physically ill - they have taken the story of these children's lives as a chance to put their political opinions forward.

I can't see him being very popular with other inmates.

He's serving a life sentence with the possibility of release after 15 years. In no way does that mean he'll be released in 15 years. He'd have to be a very good boy & still get the authorities to release him.

I can see him getting out at age 71 & going straight to a park and try to pick up a young girl.

He'll never get out - he looks like a 70 year old man now, imagine what his physical state will be in 15 years?

I have read at the Daily Mail many stories about very bad people getting a ridiculously light sentence. My hubby is English & he says it's because the gov. doesn't want to support them in prison. HA!

I don't think he'll get out either. 15 years is just the minimum. Hopefully he'll die in prison.

Your complaint won't get anywhere because the head of the Press Complaints Commission is Paul Dacre, the editor of the Daily Mail. You're right though, that headline was disgusting, especially with the photograph of the six victims underneath it.

On reflection, I think the sentence is probably fair. This guy is an arrogant twit who's too old to change, I can't see him impressing any parole board even after 15 years inside. If he even lives that long.

True, I wouldn't expect anyone to take notice of the complaint anyway, I just felt I ought to put my 2 pence worth in.

I seriously hope he would never be paroled, if he got that far. Mind you since I learned that Tracie Andrews had been paroled, I have lost of lot of faith in this system

Tracie Andrews is more intelligent than Mick Philpott, I can see her convincing a parole board to let her out. Him, not so much.

Good point (she should be penpals with Jodi Arias, so many similarities there), I can't see him keeping out of trouble in prison either, too short tempered and violent.

That entire show is simply disgusting. The show's host fans the flames and he got just what he wanted. Yes, Philpott is disgusting...but so is that show.

(P.S. - Just to be clear, KarenUK, I'm not angry at you for posting it. It is insightful to see what our society has become. )

What a sick sick case. I still cannot believe how any parent can expose their own child to such danger, let alone six of them.

That father is a psycho and the mother... well, completely manipulated by him over the years, but also very immature and irresponsible.

At least now those innocent children have some justice.
May the six poor souls rest in peace.

Both should have gotten a life sentence for what they both did to those 6 kids.No woman who could take part and allow this to happen is worthless and just as evil! She could have alerted authorities but she did nothing at all!I could give a rats behind if he was mean and abusive you give your life at least trying to stop something so horrific IMO.Woman have minds of their own and darn well be accountable for their actions as well as the man! Some girls are not made of sugar and spice!Dumbest rhythm I have ever heard!
