Police have also been appealing for information from people who had any contact with Smita between last Friday and the day her body was discovered.

Detectives want to trace a man who was driving a 'light coloured, possibly silver' car which was seen parked in Gedge Way at around 8.20pm on Sunday, March 21.

(22nd May 2023)

A man convicted of the murder of his partner has been sentenced to a further 12 years imprisonment after being found guilty of multiple counts of rape and assault against two other women.

Frank Farrell, 38, was found guilty in December 2021 of the murder of Smita Mistry following a trial. Farrell had killed Ms Mistry at her home before reporting to police that she had slipped in the bath. He was sentenced on 16 December 2021 to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of 24 years.

Court restrictions had been placed on reporting the conviction and sentencing at the time due to Farrell standing a separate trial, which was heard in April this year, charged with five counts of rape and five counts of assault. These charges relate to two other female victims who were identified and contacted during the murder investigation.

On Thursday 11 May this year, Farrell was found guilty of all 10 charges.

Today (22 May), he was sentenced in total to a further 12 years imprisonment for these rape and assault charges. This sentence will be served consecutively to the sentence which was previously handed to Farrell for the murder of Ms Mistry.

Much more info (and some CCTV footage) at the link; reading it I'm very glad the sentences are consecutive, unusual but justified to keep him locked up for as long as possible IMO.
