He got lured away, he didn't give anyone the slip but your point is otherwise spot on: it takes a split second and anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant in the extreme. I'd like to see Denise Fergus (was Bulger) called a neglectful parent.
Have seen her called that on forums, Twitter etc in the past...for not holding his hand tightly enough.

I was involved in a case where this happened. Appreciate this is anecdotal, but a woman I knew died of an head injury and her boyfriend was the main suspect. Police interviewed me and took a statement. They literally told me they knew he was responsible but were concerned they did not have enough evidence to charge him. Sure enough after the inquest they made a statement saying he was released from investigation.
It's very difficult without a body too. The circumstantial has to be very strong for the CPS to go for it.

As per her own interviews and book, she actually let go of his hand briefly to take money out of her purse to pay the butcher. Which is completely normal and in no way neglectful and anyone insisting she was in the wrong has obviously never had a toddler. Anyway, let’s go back to the case of Steven
