Has anyone heard any whereabouts of his sister, I live near Marske, I find it hard to believe anyone didn't see Steven and his Mam walking that day to Saltburn. Why did she think he'd walked home alone? Would he normally walk off and not wait for her?

Hello Julies, welcome to WS. As far as I am aware, it is unclear if anyone did or did not see Steven and his mother walk to Saltburn. The information simply isn't available. Perhaps the archives of local papers contain more information, but we have not been able yet to find them.
The same lack of info applies to the whereabouts of the sister on the day Steven disappeared. As for her current wherabouts, based on the TOS of Websleuths, we are not allowed to sleuth here here. She is not a suspect, nor a person of interest, so her life is off limits. (With exception of the 'missing' page she created for Steven.)

It does say on a local web site that he used to go to the Yorkshire Lass on a Saturday night (a local pub). Which you would need to have transport, it's quite a walk from Marske. Was Steven starting to be more independent, and more of a worry for his parents. As you say the information on Steven's lifestyle is not revealed anywhere. Saltburn beach has always been busy, especially at Christmas people on holiday from work getting fresh air, walking their dogs. That's why I think he was never in Saltburn that day.

It’s only been a matter of weeks though since the flurry of activity. We have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes. Hopefully lots of new information has come in that the police are choosing to keep quiet for their own reasons.

To be fair to Anon, it's been 28 years. There will likely be no DNA left now if they do find him.

Perhaps this person is no longer alive. A lot can happen in 20 years time.

I also find it strange that there was no mention of his sister at the time. Surely the police must have interviewed her then.

The Yorkshire Lass is roughly a mile from the Clark's house.

Even after 28 years DNA could probably still be able to be extracted from bones + teeth.

The parents were arrested and bailed. Legal term for arrest & bail is 28 days. I believe I read somewhere that they were arrested until october 10? (Read it without registering what that was about I mean.) Then a decision should be taken and this may tell us more.

Meanwhile, no news that I can find.

The parents have had their bail extended to a date in December. Detectives are continuing the investigation and still appeal to the public for information. Officers have several lines of enquiry and are working through the calls received from the public.

I’ve just read through the thread in one binge, and am a bit muddled on the timeline.

Going by the posts here:

*Mother says she last saw him at 3pm at toilets in Saltburn after a walk.

*Witness says she saw him before dark (before 3:45pm) walking from Marske town centre towards Ship Inn/ home.

My question is, could he have walked from Saltburn toilets to Marske along coast, then into town, do something in town, then head out of town, in less than 45minutes? I’ve gained the impression that would be unlikely but perhaps one of the local posters could confirm either way?

I assume an inland route would take even longer?

I hope I haven’t misunderstood the routes - please shout if I have.

PS O/T but is Saltburn where the canoe chap lived who hid in his house and Peru while pretending to be dead?

Former police officers Charles and Doris Clark today answered their bail at a police station in Redcar, North Yorks, following the disappearance of their son, Steven, in 1992.

The couple, aged 78 and 81, insist they had nothing to do with Steven's disappearance and have vowed to clear their name.

They had hoped to be told no charges would be brought against them as they walked hand in hand into the station this morning to meet the lead detective in the case.

But they emerged an hour later with their solicitor looking grim-faced.

Mr Clark said he had been advised not to comment, but said: 'We've been bailed, we're still under investigation and have been told to report back here in December.'

It’s sad, I feel like even if LE don’t proceed to charging the parents they now have to live their twilight years with this hanging over them. Of course if they did murder Steven I hope justice catches up with them. I’m just really struggling with motive.

They are throwing the net rather wide, I'd say. Someone who witnessed what happened is a far cry from someone who may have been his acquaintances. (unclear if the acquaintances are those of Steven or of the ones involved.) And why not ask where the remains are hidden while one is at it? Sofar, this is still an alleged no-body crime.
