Stuart Lubbock murder: police arrest 50-year-old man in Cheshire

Speaking in February, Mr Lubbock's father Terry, 76, said he had only months to live after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

He said: "All I've been living for is to get justice for Stuart."
Michael Barrymore pool death: Man, 50, arrested

In a statement, Essex Police said: “Detectives have today, Wednesday 17 March, arrested a 50-year-old man in connection with the indecent assault and murder of Stuart Lubbock.

“The man, who was arrested in Cheshire, remains in custody where he continues to be questioned.

“Stuart was found unconscious in the swimming pool of a property in Roydon on March 31 2001.

“Despite attempts to save him he later died in hospital.

“The 31-year-old had been attending a party at the house with eight other people.

“A post-mortem examination found Stuart had suffered horrific anal injuries which are believed to be the result of a serious sexual assault prior to his death.”

Movement again at last. Let's hope this time we can get justice for Stuart and his family.

Mr Lubbock senior is hoping his barrister can secure a second inquest - as he reveals he has "just months left to live".

He has hired lawyer Alan Payne – who was involved in the probe into the crash which killed Princess Diana.

Today, he said: "There is just so much going on in my head.

"I can't get my head around it.

"Of course I'm happy. Of course this is good news.

"But it's been 20 years. This has nearly killed me."

He told Good Morning Britain he is going through "pain and agony".

Finally! I can’t believe it’s taken 20 years. So sad to hear Mr Lubbock is terminally ill. He’s worked so hard the last 20 years for justice for his son.

Which one of the partygoers would be 50now ?I remember reading that MB was 50 at the time . JK was 37 in 2007 so I guess it’s looking most likely to be him.

Michael Barrymore released without charge

this article has the ages in 2007

This link says a JM. The poster above you mentions a JK. Edit: I now realise there is a JM and a JK.

I seen the article that there has been developments in this case. I only vaguely remember the case so I need to refresh my mind.

Surely the following would narrow it down:
  • It was only a man who could perform penetrative sex. This excludes the women.
  • It has to be a top (as opposed to a gay male who has a preference for bottom sex). This would exclude at least some of the gay men
This case reminds me of the game Cluedo.

There could have been penetration with some kind of object, which could have caused serious damage.

The sun article linked in the first post mentions a pool thermometer and shed handle missing from the crime scene.

MSM states the person arrested is 50 and
to my knowledge there is only one suspect (with the initials JK) who is 50 years old.

I still wonder were two people involved as SL was a strong young man irregardless of being drunk/on drugs.

Two people involved makes sense for a few reasons,

  • They supposedly were the only two in the pool with SL. They said they left SL in the pool and they went inside the house at the same time, which provided an alibi for each other
  • JK was supposedly jealous of the attention his partner was giving SL. There was both a sexual motive but also a motive due to jealousy.
  • JK’s partner was a celebrity who would likely back his claims to protect the relationship and his career. Similarly the other accused (the binman) had a sister at the party who would likely back his claims to protect her brother. This meant they had two people at the party who would likely provide an alibi and would inevitably discredit the other attendees evidence, of which I don’t think there was much anyway.

...Basically once they went along with their story to the police they had to stick with that story or they too would face an obstruction of justice charge or similar, Michael’s career would be ruined (which is was regardless) and because they didn’t know SL (they met him that night out) they didn’t really care. It’s natural to choose a sibling or partner over some random guy

One important thing to remember: of all the guests that night, only 2 had been there previously - Neighbour Fuchs and MB's partner Kenney. It's a huge stretch of the imagination to believe that any of the newcomers would go anywhere near sexual assualt / murder, given that they wouldn't have known their host, or any escape routes. Plus, 3 of those were female, of which 2 were 17 years old.
The main suspect was always Kenney, who just so happens to be 50 years old.
And I think Justin Merritt is (at the least) claiming more ignorance than is plausible.

Good point on certain individuals not even being familiar with the layout of the property. I have a feeling the cat will be out of the bag soon!

I don’t believe only one single person was responsible. Hopefully more arrests will follow.

'LIES' RAP ON COMIC DROPPED

From an older report saying Kylie Merritt hadn't told the truth about Barrymore rubbing cocaine into Stuart's gums.

You'll need to scroll a long way down to read full report skipping over photos of current issues.

Sorry to quote own post, meant to say it seems obvious from the above news report she was covering or protecting a certain person. Her brother IMO.

Well, 50 yr old released on bail until April. I wonder who is next on the list? The entire party crowd are going to be interviewed again, including Barrymore.

I wonder if he remembers saying in his first interview that he couldn't swim so had to call out for help to get Stuart out of water. He lied according to his ex-wife, he can swim.

Sorry could pick up link for first paragraph.

This is a good source of information regarding their stories, its excerpts from a book written about the case.

Mr.Barrymore more than anyone else wanted this story to disappear over the years. If someone else was responsible, do you not think he out of everyone who attended would have come clean in order to protect his career and wealth?

I have become very suspicious of him in this case, he had a clear sexual motive towards SL and immediately left the house when everyone found SL dead.

I think I posted a link way back when police started looking into the case again, it's an older paper report laying out the MB took Stuart in a taxi with him. MB had been drinking heavily and it's alleged that he said to Stuart he wanted to erm, how can I put this politely, he, MB wanted to have sex with SL.
