I'm leaning towards Luke Durbin. It seems like a gangster-ish thing to do. That could also just be due to me having been revisiting The Sopranos lately, though.

Still, if a body is decomposed enough to be just bones, how long ago is it from? Why get rid of it now? Are they moving house and had to clear out the closet? How could you store a body so long it becomes a skeleton and no one notices?

And why in bin bags in a shopping cart into a river?

All so mysterious and strange.

The one positive thing is that at least a family will have some answers.

I agree it could be someone who died some time ago ....and the reason why they have been moved is interesting..maybe somewhere they were being buried is about to be dug up ? I wonder if any locals know of any major construction projects about to begin?

Or could be someone's garden ?

I find the chosen river odd .. not very clever ..would the location and the shopping trolley indicate a local perpetrator?
If someone had the means and opportunity and time to drive im sure they would have chose somewhere different

Regards the sex ...i thought they could usually tell by the size of some of the bones ...but maybe not in a condition to do that?

Human Bones discovery: Police appeal for witnesses to come forward | ITV News
''Officers from the Suffolk Police Major Investigation Team at Suffolk Police want two boys and a swimmer, to come forward to assist with the ongoing inquiry in Sudbury.''

"Today we are appealing for further witnesses to come forward, including three specific witnesses in particular, who may be able to assist with our ongoing investigation.

First, we would like to speak to two boys who assisted the witness who found the bags in the water on Thursday 27 August, and tried to help recover them. Secondly, we would like to speak to a man who was seen swimming in the area of the river known locally as the ‘Victorian bathing pool’ on Thursday 20 August.''

Police seek three people who may be able to assist Sudbury murder probe
''Officers are keen to speak to two boys and a swimmer, but stress they are not being treated as suspects in the investigation.

They also want to talk to anyone who regularly uses the river and its footpaths who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area – or who may have seen the bags in the water.''

I think the bags were the general trash bags, the large, plastic ones which are black, as these were two, it's possible that they were the standard size.

I'm hoping for some news soon, a family deserves some closure and answers, which will hopefully come quickly.

Imagine how the families of those who are missing in the area are feeling. My heart goes out to them.

I am guessing they will be conducting DNA testing which will take a few months or longer? There are cases I'm following on here that haven't had any updates at all although (skeletal) remains were found quite awhile ago. (Just to be clear, not cases in the UK. Random unidentified cases, usually in the U.S.).
It's sad how long any answers at all can take, but at least they were found.

''Circled is the bag of bones which police have confirmed are human remains''
  • ''Police were called to River Stour in Sudbury at around 4.30pm yesterday
  • Walker reported finding bin bags inside shopping trolley submerged in the water
  • Suffolk Police have confirmed that the bones in the bags are human remains''
''A walker reported the bin bags to a park ranger who moved them from the shopping trolley before realising they contained bones and calling the police.

There are now two police scenes – one around the area of the river where the bags were discovered and the other around the spot where the bags were moved to. ''

it looks like a tent

Yes, it does look more like a tent, with big police logos on! Definitely not the black bin bags the remains were in.

DNA tests fail to identify suspected murder victim after bones found in bin bags

Officers have so far refused to speculate on the age or sex of the remains and how long they may have been in the river, but it has been confirmed that the remains came from one person.

A post-mortem on the remains by a Home Office pathologist has been unable to determine how the person died.

Police confirmed on Sunday that they were also looking at the possibility that the bags may have been carried to the scene.

The passer-by who spotted the bags alerted a ranger from the Sudbury Common Lands Charity which manages the nearby water meadows.
---
A Suffolk Police statement said: "A Home Office post-mortem examination of the remains was completed this morning (Sunday), but at this time it has not been possible to establish any form of identification or cause of death and further tests are now required. This will be a lengthy process."
---
"The remains will now be subject to further specialist forensic tests which we hope will provide us with more information. "This process will take time, so it may be a little while until we are able to provide any further significant updates.

Someone who was never reported missing?

Someone who was never reported missing?

Just to bear in mind not all reported missing are having DNA in police national database. I know around 2012 there was national sweep by police collecting DNA from cold case missing people but I am not sure if it is standard procedure.

I am not even sure in UK, how long it takes to run someone's DNA through UK database and get results/hit or how often it is done or if only on request. Anyone knows?

At this point I don't think they have results back yet or maybe not even started yet as statements say - "The remains will now be subject to further specialist forensic tests.

Even if it comes back as no result/hit in database, missing people can't be ruled out but yes possibility that it is someone not reported missing is quite high too.

Since there is no mention of any clothing remnants in the bags, I presume there weren't any. It's possible there were some, but I think that LE would have shared that information in hopes of getting more leads. Is there any reason why they would keep that secret for now?

clothing the people went missing in, for example Corries pink shirt. If they said a pink shirt was found or pink material people may wrongly associate with him, I think many Internet forums would implode!

I think for the same reason if police have a good idea of the sex of the remains they will not make this public...by narrowing it down to male or female may cause additional stress for families and public speculation

I noted in an article posted above that the bones all belong to one person. I have not read anywhere if all bones are accounted for. Hopefully they can find something that will let them know where this person was before being thrown in the river!

I really wonder if this is Corrie, doesn't sound like he has been ruled out.
