I wonder whether his employers, or anyone who knew him, had any inking of these proclivities of his? It seems quite a thing to keep 100% hidden.

Someone who fantasises about such things must surely be severely mentally disturbed or have some serious personality disorder going on. The fact that he's a surgeon raises some very serious questions that someone, somewhere needs to be asking, quite frankly.

My word!. I am literally speechless. To think people like him walk within us, and for him to be a surgeon digs deep.

I hope they check his surgical history with patients to make sure all were needed, gosh I couldn't imagine if I was a patient and found out

Did he do any amputations as a surgeon?

And I have no idea what "false pretenses" he could have MADE UP that another surgeon would fall for so far as to amputate his legs - BOTH of them! I think this other surgeon had to have known it wasn't necessary and maybe they just did it for the money? What can you possibly fake that would convince a real doctor to cut off both your legs??

Hopper, a consultant vascular surgeon who had carried out hundreds of amputation operations, told me he had come down with a mystery illness on a family camping trip which had led to sepsis and below-knee amputations of both his legs.

In reality, he had used ice and dry ice to freeze his own legs, causing damage that meant they eventually had to be amputated in hospital.

ugh... i had a case like that locally in canada. young woman used dry ice to damage both feet, 5 months apart. what she had (and what i bet dr hopper may have) is BIID (body integrity identity disorder); the overwhelming desire to become disabled or lose body parts. its a very rare mental disorder, and very difficult to treat. there is usually a paraphilia (sexual interest) element associated with that disability as well. i believe a question with this disorder is...is BIID primary and the paraphilia occurs secondarily or is the paraphilia so strong that it develops into BIID?

I think there is a name for this. I have to Google, but it is a mental disorder. God sakes though, it's a messed up one. I'm not feeling sorry, he should of realized this wasn't normal, but I don't know.

not sure if any money was involved (unless the sicko patient bribed the surgeon) - they do have free health care there

Truro is a small town. You can bet every single person there knows who he is. His poor family.

I was just about to post this very quote.

There needs to be a serious investigation into every operation he's ever carried out, I think, to assess whether they were all medically necessary.

The thought that he may have been doing them for some sort of sick sexual gratification is horrifying, quite frankly.
