Did he do any amputations as a surgeon?

And I have no idea what "false pretenses" he could have MADE UP that another surgeon would fall for so far as to amputate his legs - BOTH of them! I think this other surgeon had to have known it wasn't necessary and maybe they just did it for the money? What can you possibly fake that would convince a real doctor to cut off both your legs??

Nah, I don't believe that. He was a surgeon himself so would be in the best position to blag a story to other surgeons. He used ice to cause injuries which he promoted as being sepsis. The way I understand it, sepsis is something you need to act on immediately before it kills you so he wouldn't have been running this con for months.

He definitely didn't bribe a surgeon. If he did it would have been discovered and I very much doubt that any doctor would risk a highly paid career and well funded pension to do something so obviously stupid.

And, a pet peeve of mine, we do not have "free" healthcare here. It kinda annoys me when people say that.

yes living in Canada, we also have 'free' health care
yes it is funded by taxes but those who don't pay taxes are still eligible and those of us who pay taxes do not have to prove that at the time of needing health care - all we need is a health card and half the time we don't even need it but those who don't have one are not denied health care
