POLICE are concerned for the welfare of an elderly woman from Bournemouth who has gone missing.

At 9.50pm on Sunday, March 13, police received a report raising concern for the welfare of 86-year-old Sylvia Jeeves who was understood to be at an address in the Iford area.

Officers attended the address and she was no longer present.

Sylvia is described as white and of slim build with short grey hair in a bob style.

Chief Inspector Claire Phillips, of Dorset Police, said: “We are concerned for Sylvia’s welfare and are keen to locate her as soon as possible to ensure she is all right.

“I would urge anyone with information as to her whereabouts, or who has seen a woman matching the description given, to please contact us immediately.

“I would also like to make a direct plea to Sylvia if you see this appeal – please make contact with us as we just want to make sure you are safe and well.”

Anyone with information or knowledge as to Sylvia’s whereabouts is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via email [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting incident number 13:554.

POLICE have been carrying out a large-scale search in Iford today (Monday) for a missing elderly Bournemouth woman thought to be in the area.

The alarm was raised around 9.50pm yesterday (Sunday) amid concerns for the welfare of 86-year-old Sylvia Jeeves, who was understood to have been at an address in the suburb.

However, officers discovered she was no longer present when they attended the property.

A heavy police presence was spotted in Iford Lane this morning as the National Police Air Service helicopter scoured the area overhead.

Concerns for the welfare of an 86-year-old woman have been raised after she suddenly left her home in Iford, Bournemouth. Despite an appeal to find her being issued yesterday (March 14) she is yet to be located.

Dorset Police received a report at around 9.50pm on Sunday (March 13) raising concern for the welfare of 86-year-old Sylvia Jeeves, who was understood to be at an address in the Iford. Officers attended the address where she was no longer present, and Dorset Police confirm that she is still missing. In a statement, the police said: "There is no update at this time. She is still missing and enquiries are ongoing to locate her."

Sylvia is described as white and of slim-build with short grey hair in a bob style. Officers are currently carrying out searches to locate the missing woman from Bournemouth are appealing for information from the public to help find her.

Officers are renewing their appeal for information to help find a missing woman from Bournemouth – with a new image being issued.

Dorset Police received a report at around 9.50pm on Sunday 13 March 2022 raising concern for the welfare of 86-year-old Sylvia Jeeves, who was understood to be at an address in the Iford area. Officers attended the address and she was no longer present.

Sylvia, who is also known as Sylvia Collins, is described as white and of slim build with short grey hair in a bob style. She was last seen wearing a light-coloured woolly jacket, a white shirt, beige trousers and a dark-coloured pair of shoes with white soles.

Officers are carrying out searches of the area in a bid to locate Sylvia, assisted by Dorset Search & Rescue (DorSAR), Dorset Search Dogs, Wessex Flood Rescue Unit and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Technical Rescue Unit.

Chief Inspector Claire Phillips, of Dorset Police, said: “We are continuing to search for Sylvia and would urge anyone who has seen her, or a woman matching the more detailed description given, to please come forward.

“We have now obtained a CCTV image of Sylvia showing the clothing she was wearing when she was last seen and we are hoping this may jog somebody’s memory from the time she went missing.

“I am appealing to the local community to please check their home CCTV systems or dashcams for any relevant footage of Sylvia in the vicinity since the evening of Sunday 13 March 2022.

“I would again like to make a direct plea to Sylvia if you see this, please make contact with us as we just want to ensure you are safe and well.”

On Friday 25 March 2022 officers from Dorset Police and Devon & Cornwall Police’s Marine Team are carrying out searches in the river near to Iford Lane. Members of the Force Drone Team are also assisting to help locate Sylvia.

As a results of the enquiries we have carried out so far, our searches are focusing in the area of the River Stour near to Iford Lane, but we will continue to explore any lines of enquiry that emerge.

“I would like to thank all of the agencies who have helped us searching so far as well members of the public who have assisted by sharing our appeals and responding with information.

“I am renewing my appeal for anyone who has seen Sylvia in the local area, or a woman matching the description given, to please get in touch.”

Police have cordoned off part of the River Stour at Iford as searches continue for missing woman Sylvia Jeeves.

Police divers are on the scene and part of the riverbank is also cordoned off.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said officers from Dorset Police and Devon & Cornwall Police’s marine team are carrying out searches in the river near to Iford Lane.

Searches to find Sylvia, who was also known as Sylvia Collins, remained ongoing and on Friday 25 March 2022 officers from Dorset Police and Devon & Cornwall Police’s Marine Team carried out searches in the River Stour near to Iford Lane.

The searches also involved members of the Force Drone Team, Dorset Search & Rescue (DorSAR), Dorset Search Dogs, Wessex Flood Rescue Unit and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Technical Rescue Unit. These were unfortunately not successful.

At 8.52am on Sunday 27 March 2022 the body of a woman was recovered from the water in Christchurch Harbour. While formal identification is yet to take place, Sylvia's next of kin has been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been notified.

Chief Inspector Neil Wright, of Dorset Police, said: “We have informed Sylvia’s family of this very sad news and the thoughts of everyone at Dorset Police are with them.

“I would like to thank all of the agencies who helped us search for Sylvia, as well members of the public who have assisted by sharing our appeals and responding with information.”
