Moment Poppy Day car bomb EXPLODES: Video shows taxi stop outside Liverpool Women's Hospital | Daily Mail Online

This is the horrifying moment the taxi carrying an alleged suicide bomber exploded outside a Liverpool hospital as it emerged the driver may have locked him inside and his wife admitted it was an 'utter miracle' her husband survived the blast.

David Perry has been credited with saving many lives after keeping the suspect inside his cab in the moments before it blew up in what police and MI5 are now probing as a Poppy Day terror attack.

CCTV captures the moment Mr Perry's cab became a fireball outside the reception of Liverpool Women's Hospital, shortly before the 11am minute's silence was due to take place yesterday. The male passenger, who had asked to go to the city's Service of Remembrance at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral less than a mile away where 1,200 military personnel, veterans and families of the fallen had gathered, was the only person killed.

The dark-coloured taxi is seen pulling into the hospital car park at speed but it explodes before it comes to a halt outside the reception. All the windows shattered and smoke pours out of the car before a dazed Mr Perry opens the driver's door and staggers out into the road around six seconds after the blast

Friends also described how Mr Perry noticed his passenger was acting strangely.

One said: 'David noticed the man had some kind of light attached to his clothing and was messing around with it, it didn't look right at all. They couldn't get there, the roads were blocked off.

'The man changed his mind and asked to go to the city centre instead. But when they were going past the Women's Hospital he said to pull in there. It was just before 11. David noticed the man had some kind of light attached to his clothing and was messing around with it, it didn't look right at all.

Liverpool bomber was of Middle Eastern background and not known to MI5
https://twitter.com/telegraph/status/1460235959858081796?s=21

The motive for the latest attack is unclear but the fact the dead suspect came from the Middle East will increase the likelihood that it was Islamist inspired.

It is also unclear if the terrorist had come recently to the UK or even been born here but from a Middle East background.

He was not on any MI5 watchlist, meaning he was not subject to a current ongoing investigation or had been investigated in the past.

That makes it harder for intelligence services to thwart any plot but will also raise the possibility he came to the UK recently. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...-hospital-car-bomb-terror-attack-latest-news/

So pleased that the taxi driver escaped moderately unharmed. What a guy! Hope that his courageousness is formally honoured in some way.

Sources said the current national terror threat level is likely to be raised in the coming hours as a result of the Liverpool explosion to ‘severe’, suggesting another terrorist attack is now ‘highly likely’.

UK raises terror threat level after Liverpool taxi blast
''The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre raised the U.K. threat level from substantial — meaning an attack is likely — to severe, meaning it is highly likely, following the U.K.'s second fatal incident in a month. Conservative lawmaker David Amess was stabbed to death in October in what police said was an act of terrorism.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson condemned the “sickening attack” at Liverpool Women's Hospital and told reporters that the British people “will never be cowed by terrorism.”

“We will never give in to those who seek to divide us with senseless acts of violence,” he said.''

Miracle survival of Liverpool cabbie who escaped Poppy Day car blast inside his taxi | Daily Mail Online

The wife of Liverpool cabbie David Perry says it is an 'utter miracle' he survived after a bomb carried by a passenger exploded in the back of his taxi.

CCTV captured the moment Mr Perry's cab became a fireball outside the reception of Liverpool Women's Hospital, shortly before the 11am two-minute silence was due to take place on Remembrance Sunday yesterday.

The huge blast blew out the windows of cab, though Mr Perry incredibly managed to stagger to safety six seconds later. Experts believe Mr Perry's survival may have been down to the bomb not working properly - with one suggesting the detonators exploded but failed to set off the main charge.

Others have suggested that the partition screen between him and the passenger saved his life.

Now, his wife has revealed Mr Perry is 'doing ok but is extremely sore', while adding that his escape was an 'utter miracle'.

U.K. raises threat level after Liverpool taxi blast | Toronto Sun
''British police said earlier on Monday that the Liverpool blast killed one passenger who is believed to have made the explosive device and carried it into the taxi. They are treating it as a terrorist incident.

“Our inquiries indicate that an improvised explosive device was manufactured, and our assumption so far is that it was built by the passenger in the taxi,” said Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson of Counter-Terrorism Policing Northwest.

Police said they believed they knew the identity of the passenger but could not disclose it.''

I'm a little alarmed that a taxi driver can lock a passenger in the car.

With that said, what a hero.

With that said, what a hero.

The wonders of central locking.

If the taxi driver did think on his feet and lock the terrorist in to prevent a more significant risk, then his actions were selfless and potentially saved many from serious harm.

The best of a nation on the day we remembered those who were equally as selfless.
