"In the wake of the attack, British Prime Minister Theresa May said "things must change" when it comes to counter-terrorism policies.

"We cannot and must not pretend that things can continue as they are," she told reporters outside her official residence on Sunday. "There is — to be frank — far too much tolerance of extremism in our country.""

London Bridge Attack: Why Most U.K.Police Don’t Carry Guns
http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/lo...-arm-all-police-despite-severe-terror-n737551

"Last year — when Brits watched terrorists strike France, Germany, and Belgium— London's police chief warned it was a case of "when, not if" the U.K. joined that list.

And yet more than 90 percent of the capital's police officers carry out their daily duties without a gun. Most rely on other tools to keep their city safe: canisters of mace, handcuffs, batons and occasionally stun-guns.

This is no accident."

"London Mayor Sadiq Khan described the incident as a "horrific terrorist attack," adding: "My message to Londoners ... is to be calm and vigilant today."

When asked whether elections planned for Thursday should be postponed, Khan said "I'm not an advocate of postponing the election."

"One of the things these terrorists hate is voting," he said Sunday morning. "They hate democracy, they hate elections and the public choosing who should be our leaders."

The ruling Conservative and the Labour opposition parties both announced they were suspending campaigning in the wake of the incident."

"London (CNN)Armed officers responding to the London Bridge terror attack fired an "unprecedented" number of rounds at the three attackers because they were wearing what appeared to be suicide belts, police said.

Eight officers fired 50 shots at three attackers to ensure they were neutralized, said Mark Rowley, assistant commissioner for specialist operations in the Metropolitan Police Service. Rowley is Britain's most senior counterterrorism office."

"CHILLING video shows three jihadis calmly strolling past a Borough Market pub while in the midst of a van and knife rampage that killed seven and critically injured 21 – as the PM declares war on terrorism saying “enough is enough”.

The killers are seen calmly walking through the market moments before they launched a stabbing attack on pubgoers while shouting “this is for Allah”, having already driven a van into crowds on London Bridge."

"“My message to Londoners and visitors to our great city is to be calm and vigilant today. You will see an increased police presence today, including armed officers and uniformed officers. There is no reason to be alarmed by this. We are the safest global city in the world. You saw last night as a consequence of our planning, our preparation, the rehearsals that take place, the swift response from the emergency services tackling the terrorists and also helping the injured.”"

They did right, am completely behind their action. Commendable operation.

"Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau, confirmed that a Canadian citizen was among those killed. “I am heartbroken that a Canadian is among those killed,” he said.

“We grieve with the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones, and wish all those injured a speedy and full recovery.

“Londoners and people across the United Kingdom have always displayed strength and resilience in the face of adversity. We recently witnessed this after the attacks in Manchester and in the Westminster area of London. This time will be no different.”

He said Canadians would stand united with the British people, and would continue to work with the UK to fight terrorism and bring perpetrators to justice."

"A spokesman for Spain’s foreign ministry told the Associated Press that a Spanish man had been treated in hospital for wounds described as not serious.

Six women and eight men were taken to King’s College hospital in south London and one patient had since been discharged, a spokesman said. The Royal London hospital in east London was continuing to treat 12 people, Barts Health NHS trust said.

A spokeswoman for Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS foundation trust said it had treated nine patients at St Thomas’s – six men and three women. Five had since been discharged and four – two men and two women – had been admitted.

A rest centre was set up London South Bank University where volunteers from the British Red Cross were helping those affected, Southwark council said.

The British Red Cross said: “Six volunteers are on hand to provide practical and emotional support to any residents displaced following last night’s attack.”"

"The recent attacks — Saturday’s was Britain’s third in as many months — were not connected, May said. But she described it as “a new trend” in which terrorists are “copying one another and often using the crudest means of attack.”

May did not detail her plans for confronting the threat. But she floated the idea of tougher prison sentences for less serious terrorism-related offenses and called on tech companies to do more to crack down on extremist content online.

Facebook responded with a statement calling for “strong partnerships” between tech firms and policymakers."

(I was wondering about that, if they were "connected".)

"May also seemed to acknowledge Sunday that British security services are struggling to keep up as the scale of the threat grows. The services say they have disrupted at least 18 plots in recent years. But they have about 3,000 suspected extremists on watch lists — far too many to actively monitor at all times.*

Previous attacks have been carried out by people who had been flagged to the security services for concern but had been judged to be peripheral to any active plots.

May had returned from the campaign trail to 10 Downing Street late Saturday for emergency meetings with security officials. On Sunday morning, all the major parties, including May’s Conservatives, suspended campaigning ahead of an election due*Thursday."

Would the police have blown up the terrorists bodies during the controlled explosions? I can't see them bothering to remove the fake suicide vests from the corpses before triggering the explosions as it would have put them at risk.

I was wondering about this too...I would think they would want to preserve all evidence, especially the perps' bodies, but if there was an imminent safety threat...
