They tried to hire a lorry to carry out the attack but luckily they coudn't pay for it: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/09/london-bridge-terrorists-tried-hire-truck-earlier-day/

I wonder if it's time to bring in legislation that vehicle hire firms have to automatically send details of hirers to be checked against any terror watchlists?

Yep! Time to take these watch lists very seriously indeed. Deport those sympathisers that need not be here and monitor the rest..

These are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

That "stiff upper lip" thing is no joke. ;)

It wasn't, but I think we've lost the knack a bit. These days it would all be cordoned off for health & safety and the woman would be frantically waving her phone in the air trying to get a signal.

If you're on a watch list IMO driving license should automatically be suspended. Of course all that would happen is someone under the radar will hire the vehicle instead.

The terrorists have been ugly, nasty and vile, but the everyday people, brave heroes, simply crush them all with kindness and humanity..imo.

Skateboards were held aloft during a vigil in Mr Echeverria's home town
[h=1]London Bridge attack 'skateboard hero' Ignacio Echeverria was stabbed in back[/h] Ignacio Echeverria used his skateboard to defend a woman from one of the London Bridge terrorists, before he fell to the ground

Mr Echeverria, who worked for HSBC, was hailed as a "skateboard hero" for his actions and has posthumously been awarded Spain's highest honour for civilians, the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit.

Leave me now! Go and save yourself: What this stabbed victim told a police woman who rushed to help him when his life was draining away and London Bridge terrorists were on the rampage

  • Brett Lewis, 32, was stabbed four times in the back in the London Bridge attack
  • He told police officer Emily Lewis to leave and save herself, but she refused
  • The father of three was saved by consultant Duncan Bew, who had treated some of Manchester attack victims

Mr. Echeverria was a very brave man and so kind from what I have read about him. He is a great loss May he Rest In Peace.

Absolutely, they all were. So needless and sad.

ISIS 'SISTERS' WILL BE BRITAIN'S NEXT TERROR THREAT, WARNS UNDERCOVER TV JOURNALIST WHO FILMED LONDON BRIDGE KILLER FOR CHANNEL 4

Daily Mail
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4592242/Islamic-State-sisters-bridge-killers.html

We had gone undercover to make a Dispatches documentary for Channel 4, focusing not on Butt and his fellow Islamists but on a less obvious group – the ‘sisters’, the women who share their twisted views. Unlike their male counterparts, the women only ever express these views behind closed doors or online.

Now my greatest fear is that one of those women I watched being brainwashed – or, even worse, one of the children who ran around playing as the hate-filled rants were delivered – might go on to murder innocent people as Butt did.

(...)

What I witnessed there convinced me that the stereotypical image of jihadis as young men needs to be adjusted, because the women were equally virulent in their views.

The hatred toward non-believers runs deep in this politicised version of Islam. The women believe that the self-declared Islamic State is the true caliphate. In essence, they are swearing their allegiance to IS, which has declared a war on British and Western society.

(...)

There may be a temptation to write these people off as harmless idiots, but let’s not forget that Al-Muhajiroun have been linked to half of all UK terror plots and, although they have been a proscribed organisation since 2010, it is clear from what I saw that they still exist. We urgently need to address what extremism is, and what to do about it.

Anyone writing any of the whackos off is astonishing. I'm not a fan of racial profiling at all, but how do we stop this? It's impossible. Guys wearing hijabs as we've seen is just scary. No one wants to stop a Muslim woman wearing one but now we have to think about it. It sucks. Our world as we know it is changed.

The women are accused of conspiring together to murder a person or persons unknown between 11 and 28 April 2017.

Ms Boular and Ms Dich wore Islamic dress, including full-face veils, which were partially lifted to show their eyes at the request of chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot.

Ms Bargouthi wore Islamic dress, but her face was visible.

Indeed. And is probably why the two accomplices were unknown.

Wondering if the knives used were completely ceramic, or coated with ceramic?
Why would they all have matching coloured knives?
https://www.hsn.com/products/cuisinart-10pc-ceramic-coated-stainless-steel-knife-set/8209656

Anything on a "CIA knife" by chance? I got one from a gun show back in the early 90s. Ceramic.

ETA: My version was a hairbrush (blade hidden), which I lost, so I then I was only able to find the comb. Strong mat r rial, mine was a corkscrew blade, as strong as metal.

PAKISTAN-BORN LONDON ATTACKER WAS EYING JOB WITH WIMBLEDON SECURITY FIRM

Hindustan Times
http://www.hindustantimes.com/world...firm-report/story-Bm4A5yBASqKcKAYX49Uw7M.html

Pakistan-born British citizen Khuram Butt, the London Bridge attack ringleader, had been trying to get a job with a security firm that provides stewards for Wimbledon and other sporting events, raising concerns whether he had considered targeting the prestigious tennis tournament.

“The security firm would check his background but it does not have access to the police watch list or have knowledge of any MI5 investigation. There would have been no reason for him not to get the job. Butt could not only have caused serious damage but potentially helped other terrorists to get into one of these events,” the paper said, quoting a source close to the intelligence services.

Presumably, if caught purchasing or carrying, the "chef" accomplice could just say they were his for use in his job.

Site with info about carrying knives here :

https://www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives

Would a ceramic knife be classed under - stealth knives - a knife or spike not made from metal (except when used at home, for food or a toy) ? Never used one (didn't know they existed) but wouldn't they be prone to chipping under hard use by a chef ? I can believe they are used to avoid metal detectors.

Ceramic knives on sale at Aldi cannot be detected by security scanners
June 8, 2015
GOLD Coast nightclubs are on alert after it was revealed a 15cm razor-sharp kitchen knife being sold at some local supermarkets cannot be detected by security scanners.

There are fears the knives, made from metal-free ceramics, could also pass through airport and courthouse security scanners undetected.
The Gold Coast Bulletin is pushing for these knives to be taken off the shelves

Thanks for that info dotr. At least somewhere is trying to get these banned thank goodness. Just consider the risk they hold, I can't believe they are allowed to be produced it should be illegal imo.

So they could get through security at airports, venues, any public transport, hospitals, courts, prisons .... anywhere that needs security..... that is astonishing.

What a world we live in now and seems to me that anything or anywhere is not now safe from menace

Well done these people - making a stand.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-40189167

People in London have been visiting the capital's bars and restaurants in a show of "unity and resilience" after last Saturday's terror attack.

The British Red Cross urged people to come together, following the London Bridge and Borough Market attack.
Restaurants are donating money from a chosen dish, while the city's pubs and bars are asking for donations equal to the price of a drink.

All money raised will go to the British Red Cross UK Solidarity Fund.
It helps victims of terror attacks and their families anywhere in the UK.
The fund, set up in the wake of the terror attacks in London and Manchester, raised nearly £700,000 in its first 48 hours.

"It's such a sad loss what happened last week
and it's nice - the fact that we're able to support those families," said Gurdi Kaur, who was enjoying a meal at the George Pub opposite Borough Market.

Outside The Anchor, close to Borough Market, Nick Sawyer added: "A week ago it could have been us. [But] the best sign of defiance is coming out and living your lives."

Collections will also be held at the production of Don Juan, starring David Tennant, at Wyndham's Theatre in London's West End.
