UK - the late Jimmy Savile and the underage sex charges now confronting the BBC

  • #61
Really sickening. Jimmy Savile reminds me of Jerry Sandusky. Both are respected and had their enablers and cover ups by large institution, like BBC or Penn State. Savile is British's Sandusky.

Here's one thing we can do now:
www.change.org/petitions/ukhomeoffi...&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=share_petition

This is a petition to allow Leah McGrath Goodman, a US journalist who was banned from Jersey for 2 years (reduced to 1 year by Stuart Styvset and our old MN friend John Hemmings MP no less! Am beginning to ponder his fervent anti-SS stance now) and is still not allowed a visa to travel to the UK (and therefore Jersey) in order to report.

If you have a look at her website she says she
leahmcgrathgoodman.com

she is an author, historian and investigative journalist who specialises in institutionalised cultures of corruption. No wonder they don't want her in Jersey.

If anyone is on twitter can you please tweet? They need 883 more signatures but I'm not sure what getting to 2,000 means?

I have just read all the info about the petition and now signed and shared on FB and twitter. If you want to read info on Jersey/Child abuse/Haut de la Garenne there is an excellent forum I discovered a week or so ago called Planet Jersey. There is a section on child abuse.

Savile's grave dismantled overnight at the request of his family

This is developing into a HUGE scandal. Can it not be moved to Crimes in the News, it is on a level with the Sandusky scandal

This thread is in the right spot. This is Crimes - Spotlight on Children and it is were we discuss crimes against children. Apparently that is what Saville did, no? He molested children.

Hope that helps,

Salem

Not questioning what you are saying, but this is a massive cover up and has been breaking news this week, I would have thought Crimes in the news was the perfect place for it. I'm not sure that we want to discuss crimes against children as such, more the people that were involved, the cover up, what else is being hidden etc. I would like to see the thread have more discussion but maybe its because there arent so many UK people here.

I totally agree.

There are quite a few U.K posters discussing the April Jones case.

When I looked for a tread about Jimmy saville the first place I looked was crime in the news, then I looked in the celebrities forum.

It was only by chance I found it in crimes against children as some one had just posted and it was highlighted.

I think more people would find and contribute to this thread if it was in Crime in the news.

Given the involvement of an American journalist in the Jersey home scandal I think this thread would interest American posters too

Although I agree with you on a personal level and to me it's breaking news, but this is a US forum and hardly anyone in North America has even heard of him, so I expect that's why it doesn't have more prominence.

I could never stand Jimmy Savile, he always gave me the creeps. I'm only sorry that all this came to light after his death.

I'm sure Americans have heard of the BBC. An institutional cover up of child sexual abuse at the Beeb - yeah, I'm surprised its not getting more attention too, although I have no opinion about which forum its posted in.

I sure as heck do.

Yes, crimes against children are exactly what this case is about. The peripherals are just that - peripheral to the central issues of sexual battery and rape, of which Jimmy Savile and others have been accused.

Since the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1885 in Great Britain, the legal age of consent has been 16 years old. If these accusations indeed are truthful, that makes Mr Savile and those of his ilk pedophiles, and pedophilia by definition victimizes children.

And, having said the above, of course the other issues are of great interest - did BBC cover up the allegations and thus enable Savile, Glitter, perhaps et al., to continue their heinous misdeeds? And just how far will this case go - who'll be the next in line in terms of allegations? Will the case jump the showbiz track and eventually involve other powerful people?

While there are today a few items in the tabs and broadsheets about the Savile matter, this - so far, and as far as I can tell - is the first day at least for the last week when screaming headlines did not bring forth new allegations. Yet, anyway.

ETA

Well, the silence didn't last long! Today's revelations matching up well with the shockers of the recent past, see below.

Now FOURTH star is dragged into Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal
- Unnamed 'media personality' still alive not yet named in probe
- Woman came forward after watching ITV documentary
- Comedian Freddie Starr strenuously denies allegations

Evening Standard link here, I wonder who this will be?

Meanwhile it looks as though the NHS will have some questions to answer, why was Savile given rooms at Broadmoor, LRI and Stoke Mandeville hospitals?
British Institutions are being shown to be rotten to the core. I can tell personal tales of reporting misdeeds* to those in charge of hospitals and nothing being done

*not by JS BTW

Whoa! I forgot to check the Evening Standard. (This evening, I will look at Tomorrow's Front Pages on Sky, too, and see what Friday may bring.)

For the love of Jesus, he was GIVEN THE KEYS TO BROADMOOR

Jimmy Savile had keys to a high-security hospital where he worked as a volunteer and has been accused of carrying out abuse.

The TV presenter helped out at Broadmoor, in Crowthorne, Berkshire, from the 1960s and would have been able to access patients' rooms.

One victim claimed the Jim'll Fix It star shoved his hand up her nightdress after walking in on a group of girls watching television.

Alison Pink, who has since had a sex change, told The Sun: "I felt absolutely disgusting afterwards - like I had been used as a piece of meat for his sexual gratification.

...he was GIVEN THE KEYS TO BROADMOOR
Now there's a sentence I never thought I'd read in my life in this context.

The Kray firm didn't have that much power when Ronnie was held there.

The horses have broken into a gallop now. This story's unstoppable, it would seem.

With all the latest revelations of the trust invested in Savile by NHS hospitals (and the abuse of the same) I am wondering how long it will be before the morgue stories are validated

o/t a bit but regarding the kerfuffle above about subject forum placement, I can say that, as one who has posted scores of UK-related threads running the gamut between culture, crime, missing persons, and entertainment, no matter where one places them in the WS forums - Up to the Minute, Crimes in the News, Spotlight on Children, Hot Cases, Cold Cases, Celebrity & Entertainment News - most just don't get many responses. I would that it were not so as I would love to see many more UK (and Irish!) posters.

All we need are about 600 more posters and I've the perfect categories for a forum, lol.

Haute de la Garenne, Leeds Infirmary, Stoke Mandeville Hospital; Young at Heart, Top of the Pops, Jim'll Fix It; Gary Glitter, Freddie Starr*, ???**; Etc. etc. (*Who strenuously denies accusations.) (**Unnamed but apparently will be forthcoming.)
