I haven't been following this (or any) case as closely as I'd like right now - but did the police search the house when Tia first went missing? I'm confused, there's no way they could have missed a body, is there? And shouldn't the focus of a missing child investigation be heavily focused on where the child was last seen?

In most cases, I tend to think that the police know MUCH more than we think, but with the body found right in the house and SH on the run, I am having major doubts about the caliber of this investigation. The adults supposed to be protecting this child have clearly failed her all her life, and it appears she's being failed again.

BBM I have been asking this from the start.IMO cadaver dogs should have gone in on day 1

Shouldn't we wait for more info before trashing the police?

Also, not to be crude, but didn't anyone smell anything? A decomposing body smells very distinctive. Maybe SH (I'm assuming it was him) put Tia in something: a barrel or box or something. I guess I'm getting ahead of myself, but its pretty incomprehensible to me that her body has allegedly been in the house for a week.

Poor Tia.

Sealed bin bags, admitted excessive cleaning (mentioning dogs mess) plenty of febreeze, maybe the thick idiot thought he had it covered, I dunno

Hazell said he and Gran went straight to the mum's house after the 'phantom' funfair visit. Someone earlier questioned why neither of them went home to wait for Tia in case she turned up. I'm assuming they did go to the mum's house (unless that was also a lie) maybe to tell her what had happened and tell her to keep quiet? It would partly explain why she's been so quiet through the whole thing. Who knows what they said to her.

The police are so afraid of criticism, but how on earth could they be criticised if they had put covert surveillance on one of the prime suspects? :/

This may be an unpopular stance but I really don't think it's fair to blame 80 hardworking men and women - many mothers and fathers themselves - for not finding Tia sooner.

They are not responsible for bureaucracy, PACE, and other legislation that favours a citizen's rights over a child victim's.

Hmmm...No. Daily Mail, The Telegraph, Sun, etc. all have pictures of searchers combing through rubbish bins, doing ground searches, etc. 50 police at one time queing up to search the woods and the neighborhood. But no one to search the house? That seems like someone wasn't using their noodle - and that would be the commander of the operation.

I am..........but a criminologist and a couple of ex detectives being interviewed on Sky News are "Astonished" that a full search wasn't done day 1.

The police could have good reasons for doing what they have. I just want to hear it.

I agree with you completely, being a police officer is often a thankless job, and can be very frustrating when they know from instinct that something is wrong but are unable to act (in this case search) due to bureaucracy or health and safety or what-have-you. I don't directly blame the police for the house not being thoroughly searched, though I think that SOMEBODY should account for that.

I do however blame the police for Hazell now being on the loose, especially if as it seems they suspected his involvement from the start.

Perchance any word on the whereabouts of step-grandfather, as in, where might he be, based on work record, family ties, etc.?

That's what I mean....shouldn't the police be heard from before jumping to the conclusion that they are incompetent?

I haven't heard or read anything.....focus seems to be on the police.

He isn't really a step anything. Just grandmas lover and ex lover of mom. I think he had his sights set on Tia all along.

Sky News just paraphrased a helpful comment from his sister stating categorically that he "didn't do it" and that he is "probably in a pub somewhere". I have no desire to make light of this appalling situation, but the "probably in a pub somewhere" was a mini-LOL.

The mother & grandfather are both missing ?? The grandfather is also the former lover of the mother. Or should i say they are alleged ex-lovers.

A murder enquiry has been launched after a body was found at 20 The Lindens, New Addington, following a search of the property this afternoon [Friday 10 August]. Enquiries are also underway to establish the identity of the body.

A post mortem will be held in due course.

We are seeking to find Stuart Hazell to be interviewed in connection with this case. He should not be approached and if seen people should call 999 immediately.

There have been no arrests in connection with this investigation at this time.

The family of Tia Sharp has been informed of the discovery.

So when Hazell was being interviewed by the criminologist in the frontroom at Gran's house - Tia was lying dead in the loft above them? Wow. Hazell's a good actor. He didn't give anything away at all, but he must have been on tenterhooks knowing Tia was in the house at the time. More twisted each time I think of it.
