** Vicky Glass Murder Investigation Relaunched **

Detectives are to reinvestigate the murder of Vicky Glass from Middlesbrough after a review of the case found significant new lines of enquiry.

Today marks 21 years since Vicky was last seen being dropped off by a taxi driver at 4am on 24th September 2000, on Union Street at the junction with Eshwood Square in the town. Vicky’s body was found on 3rd November 2000 in a stream in the village of Danby, North Yorkshire.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Carr and Vicky's family are making a national TV appeal this morning for information regarding Vicky’s murder.

A website has also been launched - www.vickyglass.co.uk - containing information about Vicky and the case, in a bid to appeal for information and to put Vicky’s story firmly back in the spotlight.

''Vicky Glass was one of three young women who vanished between April 1998 and June 2002 and the cold case review has identified significant new lines of enquiry in their hunt for her brutal killer.

The 21-year-old was last seen being dropped off by a taxi driver at 4am on September 24, 2000, on Union Street at the junction with Eshwood Square in the town.

She was missing from home for six weeks before her naked body was discovered at a remote spot near Danby, on the North York Moors, leaving her family devastated.''

''The team will be reinvestigating her death using new forensic techniques, speaking to potential witnesses, and looking at more than 200 hours of CCTV footage from the time of her disappearance.

DCI Carr added: “We believe using modern, forensic investigative techniques there’s an opportunity to get justice for Vicky.

“Obviously, it is 21 years since Vicky was murdered but we firmly believe these techniques, including using digitally enhanced images from CCTV, there will be lines of inquiry that will open to us that will help to identify who is responsible for Vicky’s murder.''

The investigating team have released newly obtained CCTV footage revealing Vicky Glass' movements in the hours before she disappeared.''

''The footage, which is being released today, (4 November 2022) has offered police significant new insight into the investigation.''

''It shows Ms Glass with a friend in the Cannon Park area of Middlesbrough hours before being dropped off by the taxi.

Cleveland Police has spoken to the friend who said shortly before the footage was taken Ms Glass engaged in a conversation with a lorry driver who provided her with some money. ''

She said Ms Glass left some personal effects with the lorry driver and agreed to meet him later in the day.''

The investigating team is now keen to speak to the lorry driver, or anyone who might know his identity. He is described as male, white, aged about 34 to 38 at the time, of broad build and as having a distinctive mole on his face.

The footage also reveals what Cleveland Police now believe Ms Glass was wearing on the day of her disappearance: light-coloured trousers, a light-coloured top, white trainers and a dark coloured puffer style jacket. ''

I wonder how they've managed to get this CCTV after so long, most modern commercial CCTV systems store typically 30 days worth. That looks a lot like VHS, but I wonder why that day would be on a tape still 20+ years later? My only thought is they've had the tape all this time but only now realised she is on it.

A 39-year old lorry driver from Grimsby was arrested in April 2001. He may well have been 38 when Vicky was killed 6 months earlier. Lorry man arrested over vice girl death.

Saying the POI was 34-38 year old at the time is quite specific!

It REALLY is a specific age range isn't it. From @dotr post above

it's a pretty vague description in general, apart from the mole and specific age range which makes you wonder.
