"That's one way to be a celebrity" - well in that case, if found guilty, I hope this is a case where the defendant is never named publicly, even when she reaches 18! Usually I think it better to know identities (after being found guilty) so we can learn more background information etc, but if this defendant wanted celebrity in that way, the very best consequence is to completely deny it to her.

"Jurors warned of 'publicity'

as Ammanford school stabbing retrial begins.

The retrial of a teenage girl accused of the attempted murder of two teachers and a pupil during a school stabbing in Ammanford
has got underway at Swansea Crown Court.

Judge Paul Thomas KC today warned a jury that the case had received
'a lot of publicity' following the abandonment of the original trial in October last year.

Judge Thomas previously said the original trial had been
'irretrievably compromised'
before dismissing jurors hours before a verdict was expected.

Addressing the new jury he said:

'You may have read about it in the press
and there has already been one trial
that had to be abandoned for various reasons.

Please put thoughts of all the things you have read in the media out of your minds.

In particular,
avoid the best you can social media which is very rarely accurate'.”

'Girl 'took knife to school every day'

before stabbing.

On the fifth day of the trial,
the girl said she would bring
'weapons' to school as an 'instinct thing',
but never intended to hurt anyone.

Giving evidence at Swansea Crown Court on Friday,
the teenager told the jury she was bullied
and would often self-harm:
'[I was] quite anxious, scared, all the time.
During school, after school, 24/7'.

After a knife was found in her school bag in September 2023,
the defendant told the jury
her father would check her school bag every day,
and so she would put a knife
'in [her] pocket instead'."

"Girl, 14,

guilty

of school stabbing attempted murder.

(Crowds of parents lined up outside the school to hear news of their children after hearing what happened.)

A 14-year-old girl who stabbed two teachers and a pupil
has been found guilty of attempted murder.

The jury at Swansea Crown Court listened to a week of evidence and watched CCTV of the attack
before reaching their verdict.

After it was delivered
Ms Elias said she had been through a 'nightmare' and that it should be seen as a 'clear message' for pupils.

The defendant is due to be sentenced
on 28 April.

Dyfed Powys Police's Det Ch Supt Ross Evans said:

'School should be a safe place,
a sanctuary for the pupils that attend it,
and weapons have no place within their grounds.

We will not tolerate
any attempt to compromise the safety of children or staff'."

"The father of a teenage schoolgirl
who attempted to murder two teachers and a fellow pupil
is reported to have defended her savage playground knife attack -
reportedly claiming
that her actions had 'some merit' following prolonged alleged bullying.

The 'troubled' and 'unhappy' girl,
who cannot be named for legal reasons,
was allegedly pushed to 'breaking point'
after being bullied at school
without any consequence for her tormentors,
according to remarks reported to have been made by her father.

He said:
'When you have somebody of authority who is pushing down on you
and they are not listening
and you are getting constantly bullied,
everyone is going to have a breaking point
and she got to her breaking point, I believe'.

Swansea Crown Court heard
that a fellow pupil had witnessed the girl being slapped on the back of the head four or five times by the year 10 pupil she went on to stab.

She had been kicked, punched and slapped by bullies at school up to four times a week,
the trial heard,
having moved from another school where she had also been bullied."

"Ammanford school stabbing:

Teenager is being sentenced

for attempting to murder teachers and pupil during morning break.

Defendant a 'medium to high risk'

Judge Thomas notes the defendant has been involved in a 'very disturbing incident' in the accommodation where she is currently being housed.

Deputy head Fiona Elias reads victim impact statement

Addressing the defendant directly she says:
'While you may not have succeeded in ending my life
you have put my family and the entire school through hell'.

Second victim Liz Hopkin gives statement to court

She tells the defendant:
'That decision to end my life was not for you to make'.
She says
had the defendant succeeded in her intention
she would have left her husband, child, sister and nieces grieving her death.

Short break before sentence is passed

Judge Thomas says
he will first announce the sentence
in a 'child-friendly' way for the defendant
before going into the legal details of the sentence."

"Defendant sentenced to 15 years' detention.

Judge Thomas says
in coming to sentence
he has taken into account everything he has read about the defendant
and has taken into account all the relevant sentencing guidelines.

The defendant is sentenced to 15 years’ detention.

She will serve half that period in custody
before being released on licence
to serve the remainder in the community.

Judge Thomas says
the effect of the sentence will be that the defendant remains on licence and liable to recall until shortly before she turns 30.

He tells the defendant:

'I really hope that in time you will grow up and be someone who puts what happened behind them and leads a positive life'.”
