His body was found between Westwood Cemetery and Westwood Lane in Ince-in-Makerfield, Wigan, on January 15, 2013.
The man’s pockets were empty save from a one-way bus ticket from Leigh to Wigan, dated January 14 2013 and timed at 6.38am.
Nobody fitting his description has ever been reported missing, and detectives have failed to find a match for his fingerprints or DNA on any UK database.
The man found in Wigan is described as white, around 5ft 8ft-tall, with an olive-skinned complexion and short cut brown hair.

THE authorities might have had a better chance of identifying a mystery man found hanged in Wigan three years ago if forensics were more consistent across the country
...
In the case of the Westwood Park drive man, a Wigan council spokesman today confirmed, his body was retained by the coroner for 14 months until March 2014 as inquiries continued into his identity. He was then buried, which at least means that if further samples are required or an exhumation is requested by possible relatives’ finally coming forward, these can take place.
...
He was described as white with a olive-skinned complexion, short cut brown hair, about 5ft 8ins tall. He was wearing blue Nike tracksuit bottoms, a blue padded gilet, a McKenzie hooded blue top with grey cuffs, light blue Fred Perry T-shirt and dark blue/light blue Adidas trainers.

An inquest in 2014 recorded an open verdict, with the coroner voicing upset and frustration at not being able to identify the man.

Perhaps an odd question, but did this gentleman have underwear?

The early post reads Middle Eastern or Eastern European. The later post reads Eastern European.

Several years ago we hosted an exchange student. He is a practicing Muslim. I only know this from laundry, but he wore two pairs of underwear for an appropriate level of modesty. This includes wearing underwear under swimming trunks.

Did the deceased have on underwear, and what style?

Have not yet seen anything concerning the underwear, but the modesty angle is intriguing as it reminds me of a different uid male found in the US who was wearing u.w. under his swimming trunks. Now have to remember which thread had that detail!

"The man’s pockets were empty save from a one-way bus ticket...."

Oh! Forgot to mention the baccy and £85 cash!

Inaccurate reporting doesn't help in identifying this person. Next question: was the cash in a wallet or loose or what? Was the baccy in a tin, or loose or what? Did he have matches ... or a lighter?

The police/coroner etc really should make sure that the information they publish is both accurate and complete.
