“The last six weeks have been devastating for his parents, brothers, wife and his beautiful four children. However, we are grateful to now have Pat home for our final goodbyes and burial. A massive thank you to everyone for their support and prayers, especially the public of Comber. As a family in mourning, we would now ask for privacy. We know that the PSNI are doing everything they can for us and Pat to get justice.”

Family of missing Pat McCormick say they're relieved his body has been found

The family of missing Pat McCormick say they’re relieved his body's been found.

An anonymous tip led them to conduct searches in several lakes in the Ballygowan area over three days prior to the discovery.

Six people have been arrested during the course of the investigation, all of whom were subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 26 year old man and a 21 year old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder this morning in the Comber area by detectives from the PSNI's Major Investigation Team investigating the murder of 55 year old William McCormick, known as Pat. (1/2)

A man and woman have been arrested for the second time by police investigating the murder of a father of four in Co Down.

The arrests come two days after police divers found William (Pat) McCormick's body in a lake.

Pat McCormick's family say killers 'have to go behind bars'




Pat McCormick's brother has revealed that after he disappeared, their elderly parents searched for their son every day until his body was found.

In an exclusive interview with UTV, Harry McCormick says it's vital his killers are now put behind bars.



"It's devastating to watch that, to know that's his last movements. For my mother and father to watch it, it's devastating for them," Harry told UTV.

Harry said his family are truly thankful that someone, somewhere helped the police find Pat.

He said, "It was a weight lifted off our shoulders. It was great for my mum and dad to know that their son was coming home."

"Pat has paid the ultimate price, we need to get justice for him."

A 26 year old man has been charged with the murder of father of four Pat McCormick.

A 21 year old woman has also been charged with assisting offenders, and perverting the course of justice.

Both will appear in court in Newtownards this morning.

Murder victim and ex-UDR man William 'Pat' McCormick was lured to his death in a Co Down flat by a series of text messages and phone calls, a court has heard.
