Police were called to Barnard Road in Gorton at about 23:20 BST on Sunday after reports three people had been stabbed.

The woman (age 43) died at the scene while a 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man were taken to hospital for treatment.

Initial inquiries suggest the suspect, aged 22, was known to the victims, Greater Manchester Police said.

A 64-year-old man, named locally as council caretaker and Baptist church leader Joshua Obinim, and a 17-year-old girl were left fighting for their lives after the horrific knife rampage on Sunday evening.

A Blessed Baptist Temple spokesman said he knew Ms Obinim for more than 16 years and that she was a passionate member of the city’s Ghanaian community who led the women’s wing at the church alongside her husband, Joshua.
“She would come with her son and family to the church. All the women looked up to her.

He added: “We haven’t had a chance to speak to her husband yet. For now we are not allowed to speak to him.

I was wondering if this was a family affair. JMO. I thought perhaps the ages lined up to be 2 parents, 2 children but this may not be the case.

Either that or possible boyfriend of the 17 year old

A man arrested on suspicion of the stabbing murder of a 43-year-old woman in Manchester has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Police believe all involved were known to each other. One victim is now stable, the other is critical. Sounds to me like an isolated non-terror incident.... JMO.
