A 43-year-old woman has been stabbed to death and a man killed after being hit by a vehicle in west London.

The woman was stabbed in Chippenham Road, in Maida Vale, just after 09:00 GMT, the Metropolitan Police said.

When officers arrived to reports of the stabbing, they also found a man, 41, had been hit by a vehicle. Both died at the scene.

Detectives have arrested the driver of the car, a 26-year-old man, on suspicion of murder.

Det Ch Insp Jim Eastwood said: "This was a terrible incident that occurred in broad daylight on a busy London street.

"It also appears that a number of members of the public bravely tried to intervene to stop the attack.

"A man has been arrested in relation to the case; we are not aware of any links between this man and the two deceased.

"I can also confirm that we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection to this incident."

According to reports, the knifeman was reportedly seen stabbing the mum with a large knife as horrified witnesses tried to stop him before he was run over.

A man suspected of driving the vehicle that ran down and killed the suspected murderer as he knifed the woman was later arrested by police, according to a witness.

A neighbour who saw the woman being attacked said he was left with blood on his hands as he tried to help save her life

What a tragic and frightening set of events. I hope that the driver isn’t charged with murder (on the basis of what seems to have happened, ie he was trying to prevent the woman being killed).

Off to read up on “lawful killing”.

I had exactly the same thought earlier when I read this tragic story. Surely the car driver was just trying to desperately prevent the female victim from being murdered and his intentions were to intervene to prevent the worst.

The driver, 26, used his blue Renault Clio to run over a 41-year-old hooded knifeman on the pavement in a bid to stop the frenzied assault around 9am on Monday.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder but has been bailed by detectives pending further investigation.

[...]

On Tuesday, the 43-year-old victim’s tearful son joined mourners laying flowers at the scene and said: “She didn’t deserve to die. Please keep her in your prayers. Everyone who knew her knew she was a good person.”

Relatives named her as Wafah Chkaifi and said she had two boys aged 16 and 18. She lived in the area for many years. A male was too distressed to speak at her flat close to the crime scene.

An aunt, named only as Haida, added: “She had had a heart of gold, was beautiful and had friends from all cultures.

“Her mother is in hospital. She was taken in after she was given the news. We are struggling to cope.”

It is a very difficult situation, hard to know how else you could intervene knowing someone is carrying out a frenzied knife attack. I am sure the driver did not mean to intentionally kill anyone, but had they not intervened I imagine would suffer some form of guilt for not attempting to try and help. MOO

Oh gosh, imagine trying to save someone's life and being done for murder yourself! Awful situation

I really hope that’s not the case. I reckon he’ll be released with no charge unless there’s something more to the story, which doesn’t appear to be the case.

I’m assuming that they arrived to the scene and realised that one of the deceased had been deliberately ran over and killed, so they couldn’t just do nothing. They probably need to investigate and get everything checked out

PICTURED: Mother-of-two and her violent ex-husband who stabbed her to death | Daily Mail Online

The ‘monster’ knifeman who brutally stabbed a 43-year-old woman to death in Maida Vale before he was killed by a car yesterday was her ex-husband who had ‘harassed and intimidated’ her in the years after their divorce, MailOnline can reveal.

Yasmine Wafah Chkaifi’s family members have alleged that Leon Mccaskie, 41, abused the mother-of-two during their two-year marriage.

After their divorce three years ago, Miss Chkaifi, a mature student of Moroccan descent, secured a restraining order against Mccaskie and installed a panic alarm in her flat because she was so frightened of her ex-husband, one of her sons has claimed.

The son, who asked not to be named, also accused Scotland Yard of ‘doing nothing’ to help Miss Chkaifi in the years before yesterday’s horrific murder on Chippenham Road in north-west London despite repeated warnings about Mccaskie. MailOnline has contacted the Met Police for comment.

Bystanders tried to stop Mccaskie after he pounced on Miss Chkaifi at around 9am yesterday, stabbing her more than ten times. But the savage attack was only halted when a passing motorist ran over the knifeman on the pavement, also hitting the mother-of-two. Police last night said a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

‘It was a very abusive relationship which got worse after the divorce. My mother was continually being harassed and intimidated by this man. He made her life hell,’ the son told MailOnline.

He added: ‘I was always in touch with the police but they did nothing to help here. There was even a panic alarm installed in our flat – that’s how scared she was of this man. He was a monster.’

Miss Chkaifi’s relatives also praised the motorist who tried to stop the attack. Her cousin Hafiza said: ‘He’s a hero and our family would like to meet him to express our gratitude. He was driving past, saw a woman being attacked and tried to stop it.

‘This man should not be arrested but given an award for his bravery. He tried to save Wafah’s life and we can never forget what he’s done.’

Fu***ng standard. This happens so often that I don’t think police care to fix the issue. This was going to happen sooner or later, and had this not happened in such a public manner she would’ve been nothing but a number. Woman found dead in London flat, ex-husband arrested. End of.

It’s heart wrenching to read what those kids had to say. They could see it coming. No teenager should have to worry constantly about their mum’s safety, or feel helpless because the people who could help just won’t do enough. I’m so sorry that they had to carry the weight of that on their shoulders. And now they’ve been robbed of their mum.

Maida Vale stabbing: Neighbours heard mum 'being repeatedly beaten up by ex' who killed her

Horrific
“Talking to The Guardian, the neighbour said: "He used to beat her up when he was here. These flats were only built about 12 years ago, so they are very well insulated and soundproofed.

But I would hear clumps and thumps and hear her screaming and him shouting.

I would knock on the door, and there wouldn’t be an answer, but then it would stop because he knew someone had heard.

It was at all times of the day and night.”

….

“The neighbour said after leaving McCaskre, the mum seemed happier.
They said: "I saw her recently and we had a chat about various things and she seemed to be on the up, and back to her normal happy self.

"She was a lovely person really, really kind. And always doing things to a home and making it nice and lovely plants and flowers on her balcony. I think she child-minded for a while.”

“But he bullied her, she couldn’t speak to anybody. She had friends, but he just controlled her whole life as far as I could see.

"And she never looked happy, she was much better when he left and we used to chat. Who knew this was going to happen?

"She was finally getting back to herself again. And now she’s never going to know her grandchildren, it’s a horrible thing.”

Also, MET police confirmed that she had a stalking prevention order against her killer.

Seems like the guy in the car did more to help her than the police ever did
