UK - Yasmin Chkaifi 43, stabbed to death by ex who was then killed by car driver, London, Jan'22

This is so tragic for everyone involved. That poor driver tried to help a helpless situation. Domestic violence is horrendous. More could have been done to protect this woman. And now lives have been ruined.
I hate a system that says that driver is a criminal. Definitely not in my eyes. When I was in an abusive relationship I longed for someone to help me or stick up for me. So many people turned a blind eye. Even when I asked them for help.
This young guy saw a desperate situation and thought quickly. It's a shame his efforts didn't result in a life saved for all he's going to have to go through now and all the witnesses to this horrible day.

An arrest warrant had been issued at the start of January for a man who was killed when he was hit by the driver of a car who was apparently trying to stop him stabbing his former partner.

The warrant, saying he should be held without bail, was issued on 4 January after he failed to appear in court.

McCaskre was accused of breaching an interim stalking protection order.

Westminster Magistrates' Court, which issued the warrant, heard the breach related to an alleged approach to Ms Chkaifi. He was barred from making contact in person and by phone, email, text or social media.

Holy 🤬🤬🤬* this just keeps getting worse and worse.
They KNOW how dangerous men like him are, they KNOW what they are capable of, they KNOW how these things end, and he was allowed to not show up to court after breaching the order of protection. Finding him and protecting her should’ve been a priority.

“Adele-Sara Richards said Ms Chkaifi, who she knew as Yaz, messaged her in April 2020 to say: "He's had cameras in my house recording me for months."
She added: "He's stolen my mail, my phone, has access to all my personal data. I think he will kill me. I've tried everything."”

TWO YEARS ago she said that. Who knows how much longer she was dealing with this. This is incredibly unhinged behaviour from a very dangerous man, and all he got was a piece of paper telling him to please stop.

If you’re ever in a situation like this, God help you because the police clearly won’t.

It is utterly terrifying IMO

I'm not sure why some of the recent reports are naming him as McCaskre, his name was McCaskie.

I've checked on the electoral register and his birth record on FreeBMD.

Also several other reports have it spelled correctly:

And this highlights exactly how weak the policing system is when it comes to very, very dangerous stalkers or ex-partners. I've seen it up-close myself and couldn't quite believe how careless and lax the police can be. And of course I know resources are tight, but sometimes it's not about resources, it's about approach and attitude.

Yes, precisely. Resources are very tight but they fully well know how these things can and do end up. The fact that reports of this kind get dismissed or result in just a no contact order shows a lack of care tbh. Why didn’t they immediately follow up as soon as he didn’t show up to court? They had 3 weeks to do so.

I mean, just in recent memory we have Gracie Spinks, Shana Grice, Kerry Power, Molly McLaren, Hollie Gazzard, Alice Ruggles and the list goes on and on

This is far from unprecedented and they know that the risk for these women is very high. I don’t buy that there’s nothing they could’ve done

The arrest warrant being issued for him is probably what pushed him over the line to killing her. Objectively it's probably best for the process to go from "my ex is harassing me" to him going to jail takes a fairly long amount of time because it's time more than anything else that lets people move on and the percentage of people who take "the next time this happens, you're going to jail" as meaning "next time is the last time so you better kill her" almost certainly decreases over time.
