A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of a nine-year-old girl.

Police earlier named the victim as Aria Thorpe, who was found dead at a house in Lime Close, Weston-super-Mare, on Monday evening.

The teenage accused, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and spoke only to confirm his name and address.

Aria Thorpe's family say the nine-year-old was "bubbly" and loved country music.

Man found dead in Edinburgh flat

This was a few days ago.

They've arrested and charged a chap called Christos Nikiforidis for murder. The victim and the suspect are both Greek, as far as I can tell.

I have some loose connections to the Greek community in Edinburgh and I can't quite shake the feeling that the victim seems somewhat familiar, sadly.

Does anyone have any further info, especially if you're from the area? Very curious to see a pic of the accused but there seems to be nothing out there.

Police were called to a site between Emley and Clayton West on Wednesday after a caller reported finding what appeared to be bones while clearing a patch of waste ground.

West Yorkshire Police said forensic specialists had confirmed the bones to be human, adding that it was "believed they have been there for some time".

A woman has been found guilty of keeping another woman with learning difficulties captive for 25 years and using her as a slave.

Mother-of-10 Mandy Wixon, 56, made the vulnerable woman clean her squalid and overcrowded home in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, and forced her to live off scraps.

The dead body of a man has been found in a wheelie bin in a park in Coventry, said police.

An urgent appeal has been issued by the force, who believe the man was hit by a car before being moved to Cash's Park off Daimler Road at 17:00 GMT on Friday.
