Like all other Presidents, Obama lives in the White House, which, of course, is a mansion. However, our Presidents are doing it in a public manner. I assume Queen Elizabeth (and relatives) are living a much more extravant lifestyle.

In fairness, the White House is also an office building. The President only lives in part of it.

And, yes, Queen Elizabeth is far richer. The Windsors have a family fortune in the hundreds of millions of pounds in addition to whatever state-owned properties they use.

In the one interview with a neighbor that I saw on the BBC, the neighbor readily admitted they knew somebody special lived behind those walls, but claimed they were never told who it was.

Pakistan is basically a military dictatorship. Perhaps that puts a damper on neighborhood gossip.

What is impossible to believe is that those walls went up without an investigation from local officials. I think it's generally accepted that some of them must have known, and the question is how far up the chain of command did the info travel?

It's my understanding it wasn't the walls as many of the homes in that area have simular walls, the addition of barbed wire was also out of place. What made it worth gossiping about was the size. IIRC I heard on BBC news many thought it was the home of drug dealers.

Which society has lasted that DID use force to protect itself? Only those now in existence, just a few of which existed 300 years ago.

China, Egypt, Israel, Italy, Japan to name just a few off the top of my head - all have long histories, and have had on some level or another strong military presence. That doesn't mean they are undefeatable when they attack the wrong opponent - but they remain in existence in part because they can protect themselves.

There are very few countries without a military - those that are in that state rely on other country's military for protection.

I got to look at my son-inlaw in a casket, dead from being on so many prescriptions drugs because this military sent him over there 3 times and drove him nuts like they have done to thousands of soldiers.

They need to show these pictures of this serial killing mass murderer. To many people have died hunting for this freak.

I am so sorry about your SIL:( But, I don't understand why peeps want to see a pic. of him dead? Will people get joy from seeing a pic. of him dead? If so, that's disturbing to me.

It's not really a joy. To me it's a form of closure.

Guess I will have to wait til it's leaked. Shouldn't be long.

That makes sense. I know walled yards are common features of desert architecture. They are here in the Southwestern U.S., too.

But 18' walls? Surely that isn't the norm. (Not all of OBL's walls were that high, but still...) Drug kingpin seems a likely assumption.

My 13 year old was shown footage of 9/11 in all it's grusomeness (sp???) at school. She was heartbroken seeing Americans jump out of those buildings to their deaths. She was heartbroken to see all the families so distraught over the loss of their loved ones.
I don't know that I would "want" her to see brains coming out of a man's head, but she knows what's going on. If she sees it, she sees it. She knows there is evil on earth. One less evil one IMO.

My 4 DS (ages 5-12) know all about 9/11. I woke up my oldest son Sunday night to tell him OBL was dead. But, I would never want them to see a video or pic. of him dead and will make sure that they don't. What can be gained by children seeing that pic.??

None of those places has the same "society" it did in its military heyday. Not one even existed a century ago in anything resembling its current form.

Israel wasn't even a country between 70 A.D. and 1948.

Italy wasn't a country from the fall of the Roman Empire until 1861.

Japan was very nearly extinguished because of its military. It exists today only because its continued existence after WWII met the needs of the U.S.

A century ago, China was only nominally independent. In fact, it was run by a series of dictates from Japan, the U.S. and the European powers.

Every great military empire has eventually fallen. Unfortunately for us, so will the American empire. If you and I are really lucky, we won't be alive to see the fall.

Countries fall quicker when they are not able to defend themselves.
I think Japan is a great example - they did not attack us in self defense, and were nearly wiped out. They would still have a strong military had they not made that mistake.

I think the right decision has been made about a photograph being released, good Lord-- when have we ever insisted on something like that? I am ashamed this even became an issue, truly.

to make it through the two buildings and several floors. I believe OBL was on the third floor of the second building. They had to methodically move through and clear floor by floor. They hardly knew how many people would be there. In fact, they didn't even know if it really was OBL's mansion at that time-they just hoped and believed it was but it was not a sure thing.
Yes, I agree. I heard some more info this morning. It seems there were booby-trps and false floors and various and sundry other roadblocks the Seals encountered while clearing the rooms and eventually getting to OBL on the thrid floor.

Nothing.
But if it happened, it would not be the end of the world.

I see no joy, I just want to see the mangled person that was the leader of 9/11 that led to the death of 2,973 victims including those who died in the Towers and Pentagon, 4 hijacked planes, 343 Fire Fighters and 19 hijackers.

He, who was also responsible for injuring over 6000 people

Until I see proof that the dude is dead, my mind will ALWAYS wonder.

That's just who I am - sorry if that is offensive to anyone.

Several times over history.
We have seen dead enemies several times.

Nothing.
But if it happened, it would not be the end of the world.

Most of our kids (not all mind you) play x-box games that involve more gore than one can imagine. Seeing a picture probably wouldn't phase my son at all (instead I'd get a "COOL"). I keep him away from the "bad" stuff, but even his x-box 360 skating game is rather unsettling.
