Photos show three dead men at bin Laden raid house

ISLAMABAD - Photographs acquired by Reuters and taken about an hour after the U.S. assault on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad in Pakistan show three dead men lying in pools of blood, but no weapons.

The photos, taken by a Pakistani security official who entered the compound after the early morning raid on Monday, show two men dressed in traditional Pakistani garb and one in a t-shirt, with blood streaming from their ears, noses and mouths.

The official, who wished to remain anonymous, sold the pictures to Reuters.

Saddam
Saddam's sons
Abu Musab AlZarqawi

You are absolutely right. Did it ever occur to you to wonder WHY these particular photos were released? Propaganda is not exclusive to other nations.

You may want to check out the article featured in last month's Rolling Stone magazine; "The Kill Team." The story and accompanying photos are quite disturbing, so I won't link it here. But it is, at the very least, a good example of transparency and full disclosure.

that just makes me sad

and now they will be celebrated as martyrs

and avenged by those who worship them

and their myth will inspire future generations of terrorists

I agree with every word you say here, Nova. Releasing the picture, IMO, is absolutely akin to riding through the village with the enemy's head on a pike. And the authenticity of any such picture will prove nothing and will still be doubted by many. I'm quite certain the picture will be leaked - purposely. It won't matter.

Just this morning on my local news they read a viewer e-mail stating that "it's a well known fact that bin Laden died of kidney failure years ago."

I don't think so.

What is the difference by the way others have been exposed in death at the time they were killed?

We are to lead by example, right? The example we have already set in place? The death photos of our beloved assassinated President JFK were shown. How many times have we seen the video of his head exploding? So what example are we actually talking about here? JFK was not the enemy yet his death was shown but the number one wanted man in the world who had a bounty on his head for 10 years, cant be? ???????????? It shows a respect given to a notorious enemy and yet this respect was not given to our own fallen President.

It isn't going to change his followers ideology. They were plotting to murder us before they learned of OBLs death and they are still plotting to murder us as we speak.

To not show these photos makes it look like even from the grave OBL still has control over our lives, imo. We have got to stop being such cowards, imo.

IMO

The article I posted earlier today said the original plan was to transport all who were found in the compound out by helicopter. When they lost the helicopter, they left all behind but bin Laden & son. I wondered ... why? What would they want with bin Laden's wife & kids? Questioning?

Now I understand why.

JFK was not the leader of a radical terrorist faction nor was he killed by a terrorist. There was only one person upon whom to take revenge.

I fail to see how blasting pictures of bin Laden's blown off head all over the news will help our cause.

I do agree that we need to stop being such cowards, but holding up what amounts to nothing more than a trophy probably isn't the best way. We are dealing with people who are willing to blow up themselves for their cause. They believe they know where their leader is now. No picture of his lifeless body will change their course.

There is no comparison except their treatment at death and afterward.

One was a great man that served his country with honor yet his assignation was exploited and put up for all Americans to see.

The other man was the most notorious terrorist mastermind in the world yet he is given respect and his death is not shown.

If there are any apples and oranges it is how differently we treat some over others.

BBC is reporting details about the compound and the fake walls and floors. And that the out building/guest house is where a fierce firefight happened and then throughout the house. The article talked about the neighbors, the children living at the compound and the gardens, raising livestock on site, etc. Also confirmed your story that the adults would have been taken but couldn't because of the lack of space.

No JFK wasnt. He did not have a bounty on his head yet it was ok for Americans to see his head exploded over and over in slow motion.

I guess it is different if it is one of our own that dies a horrible death but if it is a terrorist then it does not apply.

I don't think it is a trophy. I think it is an affirmation that he is dead as h*ll.
According to the polls most Americans wanted the photos to be shown. The other three's heads weren't blown off so with OBL being shot once in the head his wouldn't be either, imo and I am sure they washed him up before they wrapped the sheet around him because they darn sure weren't going to bury him as a Martyr still in his dirty blood soak clothes.

I just looked at the photos of the other three men that were killed. They aren't that gruesome to me. Pretty much what would be expected if they were shot in the head or chest.

imo

No he wasnt. The national news came on stating that the President had been shot. The actual footage came later and it was and has been shown ad nauseaum ever since.

Oswald was killed when the news was on air reporting because he was being moved when Ruby shot him. That was on live tv...........JFKs was not. The first news shot from TX was of the hospital JFK had been taken to.

No, they have mentioned it several times on HLN today.

IIRC 59% were in favor of it.

Well, the point is that it was well covered by film and photography... it was a very public event. This can't possibly compare, in any way, with OBL's assassination.

Here is a link that names the variety of recording devices at the scene.

In the section: Recordings of the assassination

I was born in 1964 and was a grown woman before I ever saw the footage of JFK's assassination. I don't know when they began showing it on the news.

In any case, I don't see the connection. I'm quite sure there is video of bin Laden's death, as well as still photos of his dead body. Is it important for you to see it with your own eyes? How will it change the course of AQ?

CNN is reporting that the President was always against releasing the death photos, but allowed a lively debate on the subject among this staff.

What tipped the balance was an argument from military officials that releasing the photos might well cost the lives of American soldiers.

Good enough for me.

They only took OBL - they left the son. There's a link in the thread in the political pavillion of pics that Pakistanni security took when they got to the compound and someone from there sold the pics to Reuters. Warning - they are very gruesome.
There isn't a pic of the woman that was killed - she was killed in crossfire and was not intentional.
