US threatens to annex Greenland - 2025/2026

There's been a fair amount of commentary on X over the past 24 hours suggesting that Trump is dying, citing both the very visible decline in his general appearance in the past year and his orange make-up becoming more yellow, suggesting liver or pancreatic failure. IF it's true, it might explain why various matters have suddenly become so urgent for him.
i had that thought. i don't have an opinion on possible signs of terminal illness themselves, but it does some like we've had a recent flurry of activity that's both crazier than usual and sort of aiming bigger, and that could be a sign of someone whose time is running out.

An apology is required from the US Government to NATO countries for the sake of the US people.

NATO countries demand an apology from the US Government for making false statement at Davos, and on US media, regarding NATO participation in defending the US after the US invoked NATO Article 5 in 2001. Unless the US Government retracts the false statements, and presents fact, many people in the US will continue to feel like victims of NATO. A country filled with people who believe they are repeatedly victimized by NATO countries is a psychologically unhealthy population.

Only one country has invoked NATO Article 5, and that was the US. All NATO countries fully honoured their commitment. The US population deserves the truth in order to make informed choices.

"Trump reiterated on Fox News his remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos that he was "not sure" whether NATO allies would be there for the US "if we ever need them." "They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan," Trump said. "And they did. But they stayed a little bit behind, a little bit away from the front lines."
...

De Hoop Scheffer was Secretary General of NATO between 2004 and 2009. " ... a coalition of fifty countries and a lot of partners who were fighting on the front lines and losing soldiers. Then you get this," says the former top diplomat.

The former NATO chief wants the US president to apologize to the military personnel and their families
.
...

The NATO mission in Afghanistan began after the United States activated Article 5 of the NATO Treaty following the September 11, 2001, attacks.
...

Foreign Minister Van Weel also emphasizes that Trump's statements are inaccurate. "We were there, and for every American, a European was also killed. We keep repeating that message, because this must be countered with facts."

Why did the US Government withdraw Canada's invitation to join Mr Trump's world governing peace council? It's likely that the US Government didn't like Canada calling on middle powers to unite and stand together as one unified strong power.

"US President Trump has banned Canada from participating in his Peace Council. In a social media post , Trump revoked Canada's invitation.

He doesn't give a reason, but it likely has something to do with Canadian Prime Minister Carney's well-received speech at the WEF in Davos on Tuesday. In it, Carney said that the world order based on international law has vanished forever thanks to authoritarian leaders. "The strong do what they can, and the weak have to swallow it."

Carney therefore called on mid-sized countries to unite and make a stand, even though they might be inclined to be docile to ensure their own security. "That agreement no longer applies," he warned. Although he didn't mention specific examples, in a week of tensions surrounding Greenland, the speech was interpreted as direct criticism of Trump's foreign policy."

Anyone who supports the invasion of Greenland has to have a reason. Stealing land and wealth doesn't sound good, but retaliation because NATO has allegedly never fulfilled responsibilities to the US is a reason.

Facts matter.

"Kicking off the cabinet meeting, which is being held at the historic Citadelle in the Quebec capital, Carney called for Canada to be a "beacon" in the face of rising authoritarianism."

Seems like the meeting was about major powers like the US threatening sovereign nation middle powers like the Kingdom of Denmark, Greenland, Canada, Iceland, and Venezuela.

Given the known insularity and Geographically-Challenged ignorance,I'd be stunned if enough U.S personnel knew where it was. ;)

When understanding the reasons that the US wants to annex Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark/ Greenland, Iceland (per Davos speech), and Venezuela, education matters. Also relevant regarding countries that are joining Trump's peace council.

this point may backfire with its intended audience. a certain subset of the US distrusts people who know what they're talking about. a lot of a certain politician's movement is based on the implicit beliefs that ignorance is just a different kind of knowledge, and stupidity is just a different kind of intelligence. a lot of people are conditioned to get insta-mad at the mention of expertise.

and reasoning based on evidence is often not even on their radar. it's an obscure technicality. not something that plays an important role in how they decide what's true.

I said earlier in this thread that I think every thing Trump does comes down to how it will make him money. That’s literally all he cares about. This article pretty much sums up my feelings about the Greenland debacle. Literally market manipulation to line his pockets and increase his wealth (and his billionaire friends) he doesn’t care what countries or allies he pisses off in the process or how he ultimately will hurt the US long term, because he ONLY cares about his own personal wealth gains. He creates a problem, doesn’t care about any consequences and then swoops in to “save the day” TACO is the best acronym that’s ever been created for him. All MOO.

I blame the spread of "no rules" media and loosening of FCC regulations.

I feel like it is very common knowledge that NATO mutual defense was only activated once for the US. But I am not on social media except this, and I curate my news carefully.

Facts matter, but twitter, for instance, does not correct errors in a balanced way. What the US needs is sturdy publishing rules for social media.

MOO

I hope everyone will read this. https://www.npr.org/2026/01/23/nx-s...terans-describe-shock-of-trump-admin-rhetoric
COPENHAGEN, Denmark — On a recent chilly afternoon in Copenhagen, sitting outside a cafe with blinking heat lamps, Company Sergeant Major Henrik Bager shared a Danish expression.

"You have a cup. When it's filled, you need to empty it so you don't get stressed or angry or to do stupid stuff," he explained.

Earlier this month, his cup was full – after escalating rhetoric from President Trump and others in his administration about how Denmark hasn't done enough to secure Greenland, that they've been a poor ally.

"The first time it felt like a punch to the gut," said Bager, who has deployed five times to serve alongside Americans, including in Afghanistan and Iraq. "You can survive one punch in the gut. When it just keeps on going, then it fills you up with sadness, disappointment, anger."

So he emptied those feelings into a letter that reads like a poem. He sent it via Facebook to former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Rufus Gifford.

Dear Rufus Gifford,

I’m not writing as a politician.
Not as an analyst.
I’m writing as a Danish Afghanistan and Iraq veteran.

And yes – this brings tears to my eyes.

When the U.S. today calls Denmark a poor ally, it feels like a slap in the face to those of us who were actually there.

After 9/11, Denmark did not hesitate.
We didn’t debate polls.
We didn’t calculate politics.

We put on our gear.
We said goodbye to our families.
We kissed our children goodnight and hoped we’d see them again.

We stood side by side with American soldiers.
We patrolled together.
We covered each other.
We bled together.
And we lost people.

Danish soldiers never came back home because we took the alliance seriously – not as words, but as a promise between soldiers.

So when Denmark is called disloyal, it doesn’t just hit a country.
It hits those of us who wore the uniform.
It hits the fallen.
It hits the families still paying the price.

We don’t expect thanks.
We don’t expect applause.

But we do expect honesty.
And respect for history.

Denmark was there when it mattered.
And we were not half-hearted.

A solider never forgets who stood by his side.
Nations shouldn’t either.

Thanks for your voice, you have the respect from the Danish people.

I'm glad I read that.

Thank you.

Thread is titled "US threatens to annex Greenland - 2025/2026". The discussion is not about Iraq, Afghanistan, Elon Musk, the war of 1812, etc etc

Please stay on topic in this discussion folks !!

In response to SillyBilly's post, yes, why the heck does the USA have any interest/right to invade or take over Greenland? It's difficult to understand unless you thing about the resources. Just like the resources in Venezuela. Just like the resources in Iraq/Kuwait. I believe (JMO) that the US admin is after the mineral rights in Greenland, as evidenced by their past behavior.
